   ジャズアレンジャー、そしてコンポーザーとしてのクインシーの魅力をぎゅっと凝縮したような、チャーミングなアルバムである。
   60年代後半から始まるA&M時代には、ポップ色が濃厚となるクインシー。しかし本作は61年の録音で、ジャズ一直線といった姿勢で臨んでいる。59年に結成した自前のビッグバンドは、この録音の少し前に解散の憂き目にあった。だがそんなことにはめげず、ニューヨークの一流ジャズメンを起用して、華麗なオーケストレーションを披露している。
   タイトル曲は、フィル・ウッズのアルトを全面的にフィーチャーした美しいバラード。デリカシーに富んだオーケストレーションをバックに、官能的なソロをつづるウッズのプレイが絶品だ。アップテンポのスウィンギーなナンバー<6>は、サド・ジョーンズとフレディ・ハバードによるトランペットソロの競演がエキサイティング。ベイシー・サウンドを華麗に発展させた、クインシー・サウンドの神髄が聴けるアルバムだ。（市川正二）

６１年に発表されたクインシー・ジョーンズと彼のオーケストラによるジャズアルバム。現在でこそ、ブラックコンテンポラリーの大御所、マイケル・ジャクソンの親分として知られる彼だが、ルーツはジャズにあったのだということを確認させてくれる１枚だ。

収録曲は彼自身のナンバーを中心に（タイトル曲も）、モンクやオケでトロンボーンを吹いているバイヤースの曲など全８曲。収録時間は３０分ほどのアルバムだがその内容は濃い。
１で聴かれるフィル・ウッズのすすり泣くようなアルトサックスが非常に印象的だし、４の冒頭のミュートトランペットとベースの絡みも面白い。そして、あたりまええだが、どのミュージシャンも上手い！それもそのはずトランペットにはフレディ・ハバード、クラーク・テリーなど後の大御所達がさりげなく名を連ねている。
そしてオーケストラという看板通り、ホルンやハープまで編成に入っており、とても効果的に用いられているのは、ただのジャズに留まらないクインシーの音楽性の高さを表していると思う。
