様々なメンバーチェンジを繰り返しながら活動を続ける英国出身バンドTENの1stアルバム。

ソロシンガーとして活動していたゲイリー・ヒューズのアルバムとして制作されていたが、元DAREヴィニー・バーンズ参加に伴いにバンドTENとしてのリリースとなる。
独特の憂いがあるゲイリーの歌唱、哀愁溢れるヴィニーのギターが楽曲を彩る。
HR曲「AFTER THE LOVE HAS GONE」「LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER」、ポップな「STAY WITH ME」「CAN'T SLOW DOWN」
バラード「YESTERDAY LIES IN THE FLAMES」「THE LONELIEST PLACE IN THE WORLD」好きな曲を挙げたらキリが無い程充実した楽曲が並ぶ。
後のアルバムに比べて曲の長さが全体的にコンパクトに抑えられており、ポップな曲も多く１番聴きやすいアルバムではないでしょうか。
QUEEN、JOURNEYを手掛けた事でも有名なマイク・ストーンとゲイリーの共同プロデュース。

今は亡きZEROコーポの代表的な１枚。

　英国出身のハード・ロック・バンドの’９６年発表のデビュー作。
　シンセサイザーは味付け程度に抑え、ハードなギター・サウンドを前面に押し出した、正統派スタイルのハード・ロックだ。
　適度にポップで、哀愁のあるブルージーなメロディをふんだんに取り入れ、エモーショナルなヴォーカルが歌い上げており、AOR的な味わいもある。
　全体的な完成度は高いのだが、ミドル・テンポで似たような曲が多く、その結果、平坦にも感じられ、こぢんまりとまとまり過ぎているように見えなくもない。
　やや手堅く行き過ぎたきらいもあるが、デビュー作としては十分な仕上がりであろう。

　1996年、TENの記念すべきデビュー・アルバム。

　Vocalのゲイリー・ヒューズを中心として、プロキャリアを持つベテランが集まって出来たバンドがTENです。
　ベテランだけに、演奏は、さすがの安定感。
　収録曲も、「地道に、シンプルに、イイ曲」ばかりです。

　曲調は、「良質のメロディ」を大事にして、
そこに、ブルージーさや、Emotionを打ち込んだ感じです。
　時折、AORっぽい哀愁を感じさせるのもポイントです。

　いわゆる「メロハー（メロディアス・ハード・ロック）」ですが、
アメリカ産業ロックでもなく、
ジャーマン系コテコテのメロディでもなく、
基盤は、あくまで「大英帝国ロック」であることが、大きなポイントです。
（イギリスのメロハーは、意外といないんですよ。。。）

　私は、メロディアス系は飽きやすくて、あまり好きではないのですが、
コレは「別物」。。。飽きません。

　個人的には、
「TENの1st(このアルバム)」と「Fair Warningの1st」が、「飽きないメロハー」の名盤です。
　このバンド・アルバムを知らなかった人（特に10代！）には、是非、聞いてもらいたいです。

　発売当初は、結構評判になりましたよ！　
　「某誌で、90代の高得点！」「買ってみたら、ホンマに良かった！」って。
