１９９２年にマイナーレーベルから発売されたPJハーヴェイの1stアルバム。彼らはポーリー・ジーン・ハーヴェイを中心とした３人編成のブルージーなロック・トリオで、その贅肉を削ぎ落としたようなストイックでドライで硬派でなおかつ官能的なサウンドと、ダークで過激な歌詞の内容は当時の音楽シーンに衝撃を与えた。ギター、ベース、ドラムに曲によってはバイオリンやチェロなどのストリングス系を加えたいたってシンプルではあるが強弱を利かせた、気分を盛り上げてくれる演奏に、ポーリーの鋭く、悲しく、力強いヴォーカルが放たれる。初期であるがゆえの荒さ、というのも否めないが私にとってはその部分もひとつの魅力に思える。淡々とした９曲目も隠れた名曲だと思う。内省的でダークな気分にどっぷり浸れる１枚です。買い。

ベックもそうだけどこの初期のスキャンダラスなイメージでだいぶ損してる気もする…
性的な満足そのものを目的にするネオフェミズムとかいうのに支持されたらしいけど、本人はそんなことに関心はないということ。
かっこいい！
このアルバムではしなやかでダイナミックな３ピースバンドのかっこよさ、身をえぐられような楽曲の鋭さ、たたきつけるようなポーリーの歌声を堪能できます。
Sheela-Na-Gigなど歌詞も興味深いので（性器を露出する女性像に向かい、男が「この露出狂と叫ぶ歌詞です）できれば国内盤をお勧めします 。
