いわゆるＢ面曲に加え，ニュー・ヴァージョン（”Ｃａｒｎｉｖａｌ”など），更に”○○（ｆｉｒｓｔ　ｔｒｙ）”と名の付く曲まで。

Ｔｈｅ　Ｃａｒｄｉｇａｎｓは，”Ｅｍｍｅｒｄａｌｅ”でデビュー後，”Ｌｉｆｅ”が日本でヒット，続いて”ｔｈｅ　ｆｉｒｓｔ　ｂａｎｄ　ｏｎ　ｔｈｅ　ｍｏｏｎ”の’ｌｏｖｅｆｏｏｌ’でアメリカン・サクセス。ところが，路線変更を狙った”Ｇｒａｎ　Ｔｕｒｉｓｍｏ”以降，しばらくグループとしての活動は沈黙する。

で，本アルバムは，名前から推測できるように，”ｔｈｅ　ｆｉｒｓｔ　ｂａｎｄ...”を引っさげアジア公演する際に作られた。ところが，それが見事な曲，見事な構成。私見では，上に挙げたアルバムをすべて凌駕している。

Ｍ１（しかも，上記「ファースト・トライ」のひとつ）が，何度聴いても，「これで始めちゃっていいの？」というくらい素晴らしい出来。もちろん，続きもいいからこんな冗談も言えるのだが。決してキュートの評で終わらせない５人の意欲が窺える。

このアルバムにはこのアルバムでしか聞けない、「war」(ファーストトライ)
という曲がはいっています。この曲は、映画のサウンドトラックとして書かれたもので、とてもいい曲だと思います。ほかにも「iron man」など素敵な曲がいろいろはいっています。

B面曲を集めた貴重なアルバムです。Cardigansに既に馴染んだ人のためのツウっぽい作品だと思います。
「First Band On The Moon」を気に入った方は、これも好きかも知れません。
1曲目の「War」のイントロでイチコロなのですが、それから続く3曲はCardigansらしさ満点です。
緑の丘の上で静かに演奏していそうな小品もこのアルバムでしか味わえない存在。
どれもシングルのB面だけにおさまっているにはもったいない曲ばかりです。
ベストが出て2枚組のものにはこれらの曲が入っていますが、あったらチェックしてみるのもオススメです。
