From the swaggering frustration in the first song ("I only get my rocks off while I'm sleeping," Mick Jagger sings in the hyper "Rocks Off"), the Stones speed through familiar neighborhoods of country, blues, and R&B on Exile. They never even bother to stop when they've crashed into something. They don't leap into new worlds so much as master the old ones, turning Slim Harpo's blues obscurity "Hip Shake" into a harp-and-piano steamroller and setting spines a-cracking in "Ventilator Blues." 　３０年以上前の作品だけど、ストーンズの傑作、オープニングの「ロックスオフ」から、続く「リップディスジョイント」が格好いいったらない、「ダイスを転がせ」はアルバム中一番有名な曲、リフもテンポのユニークでいい、「ハッピー」はキース・リチャーズのボーカル、「レットイットルース」は隠れた名曲で彼らバラードの中でも最高の一曲です。
　ミックの歌もキースのリズムギターも、辞めてしまったミックテイラーのギターソロも本当にエネルギッシュで素晴らしいです、それとホーンが沢山入ってるんだけどこれが又いいんだな。
　最初はちょっととっつきにくいかもしれないけど、良さがわかると毎日、何回でも聴きたくなる作品です。お奨め！

学生時代、大好きだったアルバムです。15年以上も前の話ですが、その時点でも最高傑作という評価だったので、ストーンズのアルバムでは3枚目くらいに聴きましたが、ジワジワとハマった記憶があります。有名な"Tumbling Dice"はライブでも盛り上がる名曲で、このアルバムを聴く前から好きな曲の１つでした。しかし、このアルバムで特に好きなのは、バラードの"Let it Loose"と"Shine a light"、ストーンズっぽい気だるい感じが好きな"Torn & Frayed"の3曲ですね。アルバムとしてかなりの長さで、そのまとまりの無さが、ストーンズのアルバムとしては例外的で、このアルバムを特別な存在にしていると思います。しかし、社会人になってしまった今、このアルバムの世界にドップリ浸る余裕がないのも、残念ながら、事実です。BGMのように聴くアルバムではなく、聴くからにはジックリ聴かないとよく分からないと思われます。ですから、そうした時間的な余裕がない方にはあまりお薦めできません。仕事と育児（の手伝い）に忙殺されている今の私にとっては、学生時代に、自分の部屋に寝そべって、ボケーっとこのアルバムを聴いていたような時間が時々、懐かしい、というような大切なアルバムです。

もはや最高傑作として語りつくされた感がありますが、
傑作というのは聴き方によって新しい発見が次々に
生まれるものです。んで、あまり言われていないことをひとつ。
このアルバム、ビル･ワイマンはほとんどベース弾いてません。
当時キースと不仲だったことが原因だと思われますが、
正式メンバーなのに酷い扱いをされています。
2曲目のように実験的にウッドベースを入れるのはまだしも
ミックテイラーにまでベースを弾かせる必要はないように思えます。
でも、ビルのベースと聞き比べて見るのも一興ですよ。
ちなみに、このアルバムリリース後のツアーの音源はブートの定番と
いえるほど素晴らしい演奏のものが多く、ストーンズが消滅して
公式発売されるまで待てない方はさがしてみることをお奨めします。
「ゲットヤーヤーヤズアウト」のころより、さらに荒々しく
研ぎ澄まされた演奏が聴けますよ。
