ミックロンソンとの出会いによって、サウンドは力溢れ、とにかくいけいけモード。
１のthe width of a circle　や９の　the supermen　等はなにやら「あたしゃ神様だ！」みたいな全能感に溢れ、勇ましい。

反面、表題曲８や、４after all は内省的でアルバムに独特の陰影を与えている。
ジギーで完璧な架空のペルソナを演じ、寓話的世界を表現する前の段階で、素の自分と架空のペルソナを行ったり来たり。
そういった意味で、気の狂った自分の兄を見舞いにいった時のことをテーマにした　
the man　who sold the world　は興味深く、正気と狂気のボーダーにいる自分自身を、兄と重ね合わせているような気がする。

内ジャケにあるカートゥーンカバーは、初プレスでアメリカ盤としてリリースされたそうだが、死と暴力、狂気といったイメージが溢れ、不気味。

このアルバムはＬＰ発売当時にＵＫ、ＵＳＡ、ＪＰと異なった３種類ジャケットが存在しました。
カッコ良かったのは...日本盤（モノクロで足上げてる）
不思議なのは.........英国盤（本盤）
マヌケなのは.........米国盤（ボウイは存在せず漫画が書いてある）

そして、いつの間にかMarcus Keef(マーカス・キーフ）作のオリジナル英国盤になっていました。
マーカス・キーフの作るジャケットはどれも素晴らしい...その内の一つ

内容はジギー・スターダストよりもヘビーだと思う。

本アルバムはジギースターダストへと変貌を遂げるボウイの変身の初期段階を記録したものであるといえる。１曲目のようにミックロンソンのギターがほえる曲あり、３曲目のようにマークボランのものまね曲などおもちゃ箱のような仕上がりになっている。聴けば聴くほどに好きになっていくアルバムである。ニルバーナでおなじみのタイトルトラックは７０年代の曲と思えないほどに新しい。チャンスのある人はクラウスノミとのこの曲もぜひ聴いてみてほしい。
