初めてMOVE OVERを聞いたときに、なんてかっこいい曲と思いました。PIECE OF MY HEARTを聞いたとき、これまたかっこいい曲と思いました。
アルバムジャケットと収録曲を見て迷わずこのベストを買ってしまいました。

ジャニスのヴォーカルに関しては今更何も言うことは無いほどに素晴らしいし、彼女をモチーフにした映画ローズを見る限り、彼女の人生の背景なんかも浮かんだりもしますが、そんなことを抜きにして、全ての曲がカッコいい。
ソウル、ロック、カントリーなどの要素を巧みに取り入れ、独特のハスキーで

魂のこもったようなヴォーカルとソウルフルなメロディ。ハードに歪んだギター、タイトなリズム。今でも私の愛聴盤となっています。ちなみにPIECE OF MY HEARTは８０年代ROUGH CUTTというHRバンドがカヴァーしていて、私はそれから知りました。

その光は太陽のように輝いていたが、
人々の脳裏に永遠に消す事の出来ない余韻を残して、
一瞬のうちに去ってしまった。
それだけ彼女の残した功績は、ちょっとやそっとじゃ語れないのだ。
まさに彼女は歌う為にこの世に生まれたのかもしれないほど、
その圧倒的な歌唱力は、バックの楽器隊を飲み込んでしまう
ほどだった。とにかくこの人についても、書くことが多過ぎるので、
簡単に説明させて頂くが、そもそも彼女が、
瞬く間に注目を浴びるきっかけになったのが、
５万人も集まるライブでの、パフォーマンスだった。
その歌唱力で、一気に５万人もの人間を魅了してしまう、
その魅惑の歌声は、彼女自身のファーストアルバムで実証され、
その後もライブなどで、彼女が歌うたびに、人々は虜になってしまう。
しかし、その歌声は突然聞えなくなった。
彼女の代表作でもあり、歴史的名盤にも挙げられる３作目
「PEAL（’７１）」の発表を待たずして、亡くなってしまう。
２７歳の若さだった。
未だにその死については謎な部分が多く、
色々な説が取り沙汰されている。ただ、彼女の歌声は、
現在における女性アーティストの基本的なヴォーカルとしての
姿勢が影響されている事は言うまでも無い。
私が持っているこのベストアルバムは、色んな彼女の
「顔」が詰めこまれているので、間違い無く初心者向けだろう。
是非とも音楽を語る上で、聴いて欲しい人物の一人である。

ジャニスを超えるソウルフルな歌手を見たことがない．

彼女の歌声から伝わるものは「生気」そのものである．

とても生々しく感情が伝わってくる．

是非多くの人に聞いていただきたい．
