　最近のジャズもどき音楽の中では一番センスの良かった（しかし手抜きも多かった：笑）ジャミロクワイ。最近音沙汰もなく，どうやら完全に枯渇してしまったようですね。そのジャミロクワイのツアー・メンバーだった太鼓のパーディとヴォーカルのドッズが結成したファンク・ユニットがこのサミュエル・パーディー。もともと強烈なグルーヴ感を持つファンク・ベース弾き（10に参加）を擁してスタートしたジャミロクワイ自体がジャズ趣味満載だったわけで，そんなところに集まってくるこのご両人の趣味もやっぱり1970年代。スティーリー・ダンの構成員としてソロも取っていたエリオット・ランドールに目を付け，迎え入れた人選からして，アルバムの中身は予想可能です。

　スティーリーへの思慕の念を満面に!たたえ，ムーディなローズ，ブラス・セクションのオブリガードを多用した楽曲は見事に70年代ジャズ・ファンク。スティーリーとジャミロクワイを足して二で割った下地のうえに，4ではソウル・トレイン彷彿のモータウン・サウンドが，5はドゥービーズ，6ではイーグルスの西海岸サウンドがデコレートされる。万事打ち込みになって，もはやスタジオ・ミュージシャンなんて流行らない世の中になっても，弦楽四重奏やブラスバンドを豪華に侍らせてアルバムを作る酔狂な人間がいる限り，ポップスにおける【種の多様性】は確保されることでしょう。
