これはまさにヒギンズのベストの1枚といっていいでしょう。「アゲイン」はスローな曲ではあるが、ヒギンズは情感豊かに、しかも独特のエネルギーをもって弾きこんでいる。かのドリス・デイが歌ったものをここまでジャズするとは、聴いたときに驚きと賞賛が私の中に交差してしまった。

祇園小唄も日本びいきなヒギンズならではの選曲である。そして何より「ウォーク・アローン」を取り上げている。そう、あの日本のオゾネの作曲である。
いままでオゾネの曲は毛嫌いしていたが、ヒギンズの演奏を聞いて、悪くないじゃないか、と思わせてくれた。
まさにヒギンズ効果といえるものかもしれない。

そういったヒギンズの世界を凝縮した世界がここにある。
ヒギンズにどっぷり浸れるＣＤである。

１曲目Again何と素敵なメロディ。すると２曲目がA・C・Jobimのハウインセンシティブ！酔いしれていると３曲目で何と祇園小唄をえもいえぬ
ブルースに仕上げている。この時点でマイッタ。もうそこまでで結構です・・みたいな。いやーいくらVenusで日本人好みに作ったとはいえ、ここまでツボをあてられると・・・。これ以上エディ・ヒギンズは買いません、みたいな気になる。逆にね。１枚で充分みたいな気にさせる。
普通は気に入るとその人の別のCDも欲しくなるんだけど、こればっかりは・・違いました。！！

日本のﾌｧﾝに認められ、その世界を広げ深めたｴﾃﾞｨﾋｷﾞﾝｽ。
その人気作が紙ｼﾞｬｹで少し廉価になって出たもの。
ｳﾞｨｰﾅｽﾚｰﾍﾞﾙが恒例化しているﾊﾟﾀｰﾝで、毎年新譜の中で人気作を
紙ｼﾞｬｹ化して出してくれているが、これまでの作品群を眺めると
本当に良質な作品を拘りを持って出し続けてくれていることに
感謝せずにはいられない。
またそういう作品を愛着を持って聴き続けている日本のJAZZﾌｧﾝも
もっと評価されて良い様に思う。
