90年代前半、あのTECHNODONを引っさげて東京ドームで復活する前後、YMOのLIVE音源を中心にいろいろなCD,VIDEOが発売されました。
これはその中のひとつ。1980年のWORLD TOURの音源。
前年も"赤い人民服"を着てWORLD TOURを行ってましたが、1980のLIVE TAKEの方が、彼らも演奏に慣れたのか、まとまってて好きです。
OPENINGの教授のソロ｢RIOT IN LAGOS｣、YTのｼﾝｾﾄﾞﾗﾑ乱れ打ちが聞ける｢RYDEEN｣、すべての曲がいい意味で洗練されていて、当時の格好イイ彼らを伝えてくれます。

　16トラックで収録されたロンドンでの録音がやはり素晴らしい。YMOはロンドンで映える。「ライオット・イン・ラゴス」から「東風」に至るまで、触ると冷たく火傷しそうなドライアイスのような切れ味のライブである。ポップと実験、スタジオ性の再現とライブのパッションが見事にブレンドした状態のYMOである。故・大村憲司のプレイも素晴らしい。近年昔のライブ音源が出てきてその偉大さが分かってきたが、当時は音が出ているのか出ていないのか分からず？だらけだったが、このライブならば分かる。ＮＨＫＦＭで放送されたものを何度が耳にしたことがあるが、こっちの装置がイマイチで音質が悪くて幻滅していた。このＣＤならば興奮・納得である。「東風」の坂本のリードは、時代を超えた音色・プレイであると思う。
　この盤を再度リリースするか、『ＬＯＮＤＯＮ』としてリリースして欲しい。あと、映像はないのだろうか？

アルファが連発した時期のライブ版としては音質は良いと思います。パブリックプレッシャーよりも演奏がこなれていて、数段聞きごたえがあると思います。最大の魅力は大村憲司氏のいかにもニューウェーブっぽい鋭いギターワークで、千のナイフの冒頭のリフなんか鳥肌が立つほどカッコいい。はっきり言って１回目のワールドツアーのフュージョン色の強い渡辺香津美氏のギターより断然こっちのほうがYMOに似合っている。
