このアルバムは、一曲一曲に身近なのに壮大な物語があります。
聴いていると、そのひとつひとつの物語を旅しているような気分になります。


現代社会を生きる切実な人間臭さのある2曲目、「光の射す方へ」。切なくてどこか懐かしい3曲目「Prism」。必死で生きてやろうという気分になる5曲目「ニシエヒガシエ」。聴けば自由を感じられる7曲目「I’ll be」。心が温まる9曲目「ラララ」。紛れもない名曲「終わりなき旅」。


このアルバムを聴き終えた後、たどり着く場所はゴールではなく、スタートです。

前作ボレロの発売後より活動休止していたミスチルの復活後、初のアルバムです。
タイトルはディスカバリー、発見ですね。
Voの桜井さんが個人的にいろいろあった次期なのでそのせいもあるのかもしれませんが、やっぱり刺激的な歌詞が多いです。そして、やはり基本は世相の風刺ですね。
今の彼らなら、｢夕食に誘った女の笑顔が下品で｣なんて絶対に歌いませんよね。
曲毎のアクも強めですのでミスチル入門は別のアルバムにした方が良いかもしれません。
何かを探しているのでしょうか、各曲の曲名からも右往左往する様子が伺えます。そして、｢黒｣いこのアルバムと「白」い次回作“Q”は是非セットで聞いてください。その果てで、何かを発見できる・・・はずです。

万人受けしそうもないハードなアルバムを続けて制作していたミスチル最後の挑戦がこのアルバムです。
今改めて聴き返しても、現在のようなポップミスチルの雰囲気は希薄で、
ひたすらアングラに叫び続けていますね。
しかし良い意味で、現在では前に出ることの少なくなった田原さんのギターがギンギンに鳴り響き、
従来のバンドサウンドが楽しめる好アルバムであると言えます。
その代表が、ニシエヒガシエですね。
ハードミスチルを代表する一曲で、今でもボクのお気に入りとなっています。
この次に出したＱから、徐々にポップミスチルへと移行していきます。
彼らの洋楽を意識した音作りが聴かれる、ハードミスチル最後の傑作と言えるでしょう！！
