マイルス・デイビスといきなりであったところから始まった僕のジャズ体験はある意味では幸運な出自により、豊かにそして広がりを持って今日までたどり着いたといえる。ディジー・ガレスピー、リー・モーガン、フレディ・ハバード、ケニー・ドーハムとその後も多くのトランペッターと出会いその音色やフレージングの違いに心躍らせた。ところが伝説の天才トランペッターであるクリフォード・ブラウンの存在を知った時、そしてなかなかその音楽に触れる機会がないまま画竜点睛ともいうべき状態がしばらく続いた。ローチ＝ブラウンのアルバムも入手できないまま、高校２年の夏休みに友人の実家を訪ね長崎旅行をした際、レコード店でついに見つけたのが、このアルバムからカプリンリングされた ストックホルム・スウィートニン、 恋人よ我に帰れであった。ここではライオネル・ハンプトン 楽団の若きメンバーとのセッションが収められているが、アート・ファーマーとのトランペット競演も聴き所になっており興味深い。結果はブラウンのＫＯ勝利で、ものすごい火を吐くようなトランペットに圧倒された。伝説の名演を聞いた感動が今でもよみがえる青春の思い出の１ページである。

「パリ・セッション」の直前にスウェーデンで秘密裡に録音した、ライオネル・ハンプトン楽団のピック・アップ・メンバーとスウェーデン・ミュージシャンを交えたセッションの完全盤である。
小編成のコンボによる録音で、アレンジはクィンシー・ジョーンズが担当している。彼もまだこの頃は新進のトランペッター兼編曲家にすぎなかったわけだが、既に有り余る才能が開花していたと言って過言ではないと思う。
今ひとつの本作の聞き物は、ブラウンに激しいライバル意識を持っていたアート・ファーマーとの競演であり、２．に聴かれるミュート・ソロの応酬は、甲乙付けがたい熱演である。
