   ノーバート・プットナムによる細やかなプロダクションは、軽やかで伸び伸びとしたリリシズムにあふれており、今回の再リリース盤では、それが克明に再現されている。このアルバムならよく知っているという人も、意義あるリスニング体験を味わえるはずだ。細かいディテールのひとつひとつ――たとえば、「Faithful」におけるグラディ・マーティンのギター、「Blue River」に登場するウェルドン・マイリックのスティール・ギターとジョニ・ミッチェルの複雑なフレージングに彩られたバック・ヴォーカル、「Florentine」で音量が小さいにもかかわらず見事な展開を見せるファレル・モリスのヴァイブ――が、まるで初めて聴く音のように立ち上がってくるのだ。さらに、未発表トラックも2つ加えられた――初期のバラード「Come to My Bedside」のソウルフルな再演と、ケイジャン風に作り変えられたハンク・ウィリアムスの「Why Don't You Love Me Like You Used to Do?」だ。

この作品が発表されたのは1972年。世界的なシンガーソングライターブームが起きていた時代であった。「愛」と「やさしさ」をテーマにした歌を弾き語るシンガーは沢山いたが、中でもエリック・アンダースンの歌には深い抒情と余韻が感じられ、30年たった今でも色あせることはない。「Is It Really Love At All」「Blue River」は大好きな歌だ。個人的には宝物の1枚であるが､更に多くの人にもこの感動を味わってみてもらいたい。なお、今回デジタルリマスターにより音質が向上するとともに、未発表の2曲がボーナストラックで追加されている。

この人のアルバムはこれしか聞いていないのですが、30年前、一世を風靡しました。小倉ユージさんか誰かが、無人島に持って行きたいアルバム（流行りましたねー）って書いてました。
青春時代であったその頃の自分には、歌詞がピッタシカンカンで、「いつも誠実というわけではなかったけど、いつでも真実だったんだ」とかは今の若い人にも沁みると思います。

Blue Riverでは、Joni Mitchellがコーラスやってます。そうそう彼も彼女もカナダで、Neil Youngもそうで、寒い国の叙情性は共通しています（雪かき大変やろな）。
サウンド好きな人には向かないでしょうが、フォークソング・ファンは一度聴いてみてあそばせ

　ビートルズが発火点となったロック革命！は69年のウッドストックでピークをうち、ジミヘンやジャニスの死で急速に内省化して行きます。この時台頭してきたのがＳＳＷ（シンガーソングラオラー）と呼ばれる人々で、彼、エリック・アンダーソンもその一人と言って良いでしょう。激しいロックや直線的に進化することへの反動が、この頃のＳＳＷにあったと思います。別の意味でささくれ立っている現在の世の中にいる我々も癒されること請け合いです。
　この作品は大変音が良いことを追記しておきます。
