ノヴェラのキーボーディスト、永川敏郎(えがわ・としお)のソロ・プロジェクトとして誕生したバンド、ジェラルドの１作目。ノヴェラのハードな面を押し進めた印象の硬質でドラマティックなサウンドの上を、逸材・藤村幸宏(最近はＧａｃｋｔの片腕としてやたら有名になりましたね(笑))の甘い歌声が舞う、叙情的かつ耽美的なプログレ・ハードの名作。ただ、今の耳で聴くと若干、歌詞の表現面で舌足らずな面が見られるのが惜しいかな。ともあれ、ノヴェラやムーンダンサーなどと共に、マリス・ミゼルなんかの「叔父さん」くらいにあたるバンドだと思いますので、その方面のビジュアル系好きな方は、たまには「叔父さん」の言うことも聞いてみて下さい(笑)。

NOVELAの枝葉というか、氷川敏郎のソロプロジェクトとしてスタートしたジェラルド。当時目黒鹿鳴館でのライブは圧巻だったがそれはもう過去の出来事。いまのジェラルドの方がよりセンシティブで技巧的にもすぐれているが、まあそれはいいとして。

やはりハードプログレを背負ったNOVELAがあったことで、このプロジェクトは、より叙情的で、大作志向であったようだ。氷川本人の考え方や立場もそうであったのだろうがこのバンドにおいてこれからの方向性を見出していったことがよくわかる。メンバーの茶々丸なんかはこのプロジェクトのあとデッドチャップリンなどを経て売れっ子だ。ずばぬけたメロディセンスと構成力（想像力かもしれない）はやはりある種の天才肌。この作品なくして現在のジェラルドはないだろう。
