今や天才の名を欲しいがままにする鍵盤奏者、イェンス・ヨハンソンの３ｒｄソロアルバムがコレ。

このアルバム、とにもかくにもネオクラ・プレイがまぶしい(ﾟДﾟ)!!!! （嬉！！）

これまでSILVER　MOUNTAIN〜YNGWIE〜STRATOVARIUSとキャリアを積んできた彼の関連作品の中でも、ネオクラ度はこのアルバムがブッチギリに１位と言ってもいいだろう。

ロック〜メタルの音像を行き来しつつも、イェンスのクラシカル・プレイの彩りに統一された楽曲は、とにかく全編がクラシカルなメロディに溢れた、まさに北欧メタルの真骨頂たる出来栄え。

メンバーも、今日HAMMERFALLで活躍する実兄アンダース・ヨハンソン（dr）をはじめ、ミスター北欧ヴォイス、ヨラン・エドマン（Vo：TIME　REQUIEM、MADISON、STREET　TALK、KARMA･･･）、さらにはバカテクデブギタリスト（失礼＾＾；）、マイケル・ロメオ（ｇ、ｂ：SYMPHONY　X）という豪華な顔ぶれ。

こんだけの顔ぶれを揃えて駄作なはずがないわな。

破綻皆無の安定したバック陣（こっちが主役か＾＾；）が奏でるやや古臭さを感じさせるものの、クラシカルなサウンドに、まさに北欧な空気を運んでくるヨランのヴォーカルが被さった瞬間、気分は一気に北欧へワープ（＾＾

基本、捨て曲なし。メランコリックで叙情的な旋律のオンパレード。
特に挙げるとすれば、陰鬱なクラシカル・メロディが超北欧（苦笑）な＃６“In　The　Mirror”、どこかコミカルだが侮る無かれの疾走チューン＃７“Samurai”、アンダースの超爆フィルで幕を開ける＃８“Close　To　You”あたりがお気に入りかな。

まあなにせ、前述のバンドが好きなリスナーには自信をもってオススメできる内容。

ソロ、バンド、プロジェクトなどさまざまな形態で活躍するイェンス＆アンダース・ヨハンソン兄弟による1998年の作品です。メンバーはヨラン・エドマン（ヴォーカル）、マイケル・ロメオ（ギター、ベース、元シンフォニーＸ）という構成です。イングヴェイ・マルムスティーンとの共演作でお馴染みの通り、この兄弟はやはりネオクラシカル路線が一番しっくりくるような気がします。大仰とも思える冒頭の「The Last Vaking」をはじめとして、全曲とも徹頭徹尾ネオクラ路線を突っ走るあたりは、一種の爽快感すら覚えます。多分にイングヴェイを意識したギターのマイケル・ロメオのプレイもなかなかナイスです。聞けばマイケル・ロメオは当初はベースのみでの参加の予定だったそうですが、おもむろにギターを弾いてみたところ、ヨハンソン兄弟にいたく気に入られたということで、ギターもプレイすることに。確かにギターレスだと、ギリギリのラインで「臭くなってしまう危険性」が強い作品だけに、ギターの大胆導入は正解だと思います。
