"With MJQ"では真ん中であまり目立っていなかった名曲"Slow Boat To Chaina"から始まる選曲がニクイ。Prestige音源が中心の全１１曲(但し、Contemporary音源２曲を含む)からのコンピレーション盤。約６５分の至福のロリンズシャワーです。"With MJQ","Plays For Bird"(大好き)から各１曲,"Workt Time","Tenor Madness","Contemporary Leaders"から各２曲,"Saxophone Colossus"から３曲の珠玉のロリンズ名演奏集です(選者は内藤遊人氏)。何故コンテンから２曲で"Way Out West"から１曲もないのが少し不思議ではあるが、テナーマッドネスからタイトル曲をハズして"Paul's Pal","My Riverie"を持ってきたのは正解。テナーマッドネスという曲、トレーンとロリンズの競演が売りなんですが、やたら長くて自己満足的な二人の掛け合いがあまり好きでなかった。あのサキコロからは"St.Thomas","You Don't Know What Love Is","Moritat"と来る。比較的常識的な選ですね。僕は生まれつき「恋の味をご存じないのね」苦手症候群なのですが、全体の流れが良いので何とか聴き流せる。ロリンズ隠れ名盤として僕の中での評価が確定しているプレイズフォーバードがらは最高の曲"I've Accustomed To Her Face"が選ばれているのも嬉しい。"彼女の顔"と違い聞き飽きさせられない。コンテンからの渋い２曲"I've Found A New Baby","In The Chapel In The Moonlight"締めるのもツウ好みですね。リファンされた音質(20bit K2 Super Coding)も凄く良い。女の人？が書いたロリンズのチョイワルオヤジ風のイラストも可愛いじゃあ〜りませんか。廉価盤ということもあり、ロリンズファンの方々要注意ですぞ。
