Motley Crue was the ultimate party band of the '80s, and it showed; whenever they tried to get serious, the results were ugly. Dr. Feelgood is good-time heavy rock from start to finish, and that's all it has to be. This album has more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box, from the rip-roaring "Kickstart My Heart," to the groove-oriented title track, to the infectiously funny "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)." Of course, it wouldn't be a Motley Crue album without a heaping dose of raunchiness, as songs like "Slice of Your Pie," "Sticky Sweet," and "She Goes Down" can attest. 　1989年の作品。プロデューサーをボブ・ロックに変え、起死回生の一発としてメンバー全員が素面に戻って作ったといわれ、肉体も精神もボロボロだった彼らの底力は、このアルバム全体にみなぎっています。エアロスミスやチープトリックのメンバー、ブライアン・アダムスそしてスキッド・ロウなどの参加も華を添えてはいるものの、このアルバムではミック・マーズのソングライティングと、アレンジ力に負うところが大きいのです。エンディングのギターソロではモット・ザ・フープルの“All The Young Dudes”のメロディが奏でられ、思わず彼らのルーツを思わずにはいられません。ここでこのメロディを使う当たりも、ミック・マーズの才能は見事なもので、このアルバムは永遠にカタログから消えることはないでしょう。

いままで、これだけ洗練されたBAD BOYS ROCKはあっただろうか。オープニングのＳＥからいっきにモトリーワールドへ爆走！現在のライブにかかせない名曲ぞろい。前作まで一蹴するような完成度の高さ、今のモトリーの原型はここにあると言い切れる。本人たちも最高傑作と位置つけている作品だとか。このアルバムに収録されているタイトルチューンでもある「ドクター・フィールグッド」、ライブで一番燃える「キック・スタート・マイハート」。このアルバムなしでモトリーは成り立たない。また、モトリー入門者はここから入るのがよろしいのではないでしょうか。

当時アメリカMTVではＰＶがヘヴィーローテーションに入りガンガン流れていました。このアルバムから何曲のヒットが生まれたでしょう？どれも以前のモトリー以上にメロディアスに洗練されたロックを展開しています。
