思い起こせば 1のギターソロ冒頭をオルタネピッキングで完璧に弾けるかどうかが、ギター少年にとって初心者の域を脱するラインでしたね(笑)

前作での触りの良いコマーシャルな感はここには無く、HR色が強いですがアメリカ制覇に向けての試行錯誤のひとつだったと思います。

結局、売れ線演ろうとハード路線だろうと良い作曲者が書けば引き込まれるということ。
リッチーはライジングを演ろうとした訳では無く、80年代のマシンヘッドを創ろうとしたのではないでしょうか?

初めてこのアルバムを聴いたのは20年以上も前になるが、今聴いても本当に洗練されたカッコいいサウンドだ。前作”Difficult to Cure”も素晴らしかった。おそらく同じ路線の作風なのだろうが、このアルバムの方がよりハードさを感じるのは、ジョーリンターナーが格段も腕を挙げたからだと思う。彼はこのアルバムで「完璧なる職人ヴォーカリスト」になった感がある。懐かしさをかみしめつつ毎日車の中で聴いている。本当に”カッコいい”一枚だ。

リッチー・ブラックモアは、DEEP PURPLE、RAINBOWの両方のバンドでもめっちゃカッコ良いハード・ロックをやっているハード・ロック界の崇高のギタリストですし、この作品も、ハード・ロックからポピュラー、中世音楽に傾倒した楽曲までも収録されている幅の広い音楽性をこのアルバムでも垣間見る事の出来るレインボー後期の名作であると思います。

レインボーの歴代ヴォーカリストは、初代がロニー・ジェイムス・ディオ、二代目がグラハム・ボネットで、そして、三代目がこのアルバムのヴォーカリストでレインボー後期を支えた名ヴォーカリスト、ジョー・リン・ターナーである。この3人で大好きなのが、ハスキーな声でいて且つソウルフルなヴォイスのジョーが一番好きで（でも3人共に大好きやでー！！）、他のロックのミュージシャンで類似する歌い手は、エリック・マーティン、ポール・ロジャース、スティーヴ・ペリー、グレン・ヒューズなどで、これらのヴォーカリストは魂が物凄く込めて歌いはる人達なので、聴いていて大変心地良いですし、この人達はブラック・コンテンポラリーからの影響を多分に受けた事を聴く者も容易に感じ取る事が出来るロックにおける最重要なヴォーカリスト達だと思いますし、僕の大好きなロック音楽の歌い手達です。

レインボーでジョー・リン・ターナーの参加作品は、「DIFFICULT TO CURE」と「BENT OUT OF SHAPE」とこのアルバムの3枚ですが、僕はこの作品が一番気に入っていますし、一番ハード・ロック寄りのアルバムなので、リッチーのギター演奏もジョーのソウルフルなヴォーカルの両方を楽しむ事が出来るハード・ロック、ヘヴィーメタル好きには堪らなく嬉しいアルバムなので、めっちゃお勧めします！！

ジョーは、最近、グレン・ヒューズとか梶山章などとコラボして色んな音楽活動をしていますが、どれを採ってもジョーと言うヴォーカリストは、様になりますし、どのコラボでもジョーの個性がめっちゃ光っていると思います。
結局、リッチー・ブラックモアは、何をやらしてもめっちゃカッコ良いと言うことですなぁ~！！！（また、リッチー先生、キャンディス嬢も良いけれども、レインボー再結成の方も、頼んまっせぇー！！!）
