キャロルキングとダニーコーチとチャールズラーキーの3人バンドcityの唯一のアルバムです。『つづれおり』の数年前の作品で、『つづれおり』のサウンドに近い上に、ソロ活動とは違ったシンプルなバンドらしさがあり、また伸びやかで、力の抜け具合がとても気持ちよい作品です。5曲目のダニーコーチの歌も素敵です。ゴーフィンとの名曲snow queenが1曲目というのも感慨深いです。切ないサウンドがたまりません。

本作は、作曲家からシンガー・ソング・ライターとして一人立ちしようとするキャロル・キングの瑞々しい姿をダニー・コーチマー、チャールズ・ラーキーのサポートを得て描いた…正に夢語りである。
こうして考えると音楽的な土俵・一般的な評価を除外すれば、本作はキャロルにとって、エリック・クラプトンに於けるレイラ的なポジションにあたる作品のような気もする。
双方とも作品の名義がグループ名なっている点もそうだが、本作にしてもレイラにしても、音楽に対するひたむきさが伝わってくる作品であり、その音作りを踏襲した素晴らしい作品が後に続く点も同じだからだ。
それがキャロルの場合、♪Tapestry♪なのは言うまでもないだろう。
雪の中でスキップしているかのような変拍子のリズムが印象的な1
なだらかでいて優美なメロディーに硬く艶やかなギターが絡む2
軽快なテンポの中に転調の上手さが光るタイトル曲3
メロディーとキャロルの一人二重奏によるヴォーカルが瑞々しい4
ゆったりとした大陸的な響きの5
後のスマックウォーター・ジャックに通じるようなアップ・テンポの6
ラテン系のリズムに爽やかで涼しいメロディーが心地よい7
最もキャロルが得意とする路線といったメロディーを持った8
タイトル通りアット・ホームな雰囲気満載の9
陽差しを浴びたようなメロディーが楽しく響く10
ほろ酔い感覚漂う小粋な歌いっぷりが魅力の11
キャロルらしい美しいメロディーとハープシコードの音色が優雅な12
このように、瑞々しさと爽やかさが目一杯堪能出来る作品に仕上がっている。
ソロ・デビュー作Writerと合わせて、代表作Tapestryまでのプロセスを楽しんでもらえる心地よいメロディーが詰まった魅力的な一枚だと思う。
