当時話題となった「4枚連続リリース」されたシングル4タイトルをすべて含んだアルバム。
globe史上最高のアルバムといわれる事も多い作品だ。
特に『SWEET HEART』は、シングルバージョンから大幅にボリュームアップされたバージョンで
収録されており、必聴である。

全体構成は、まさにglobeそのもの。
アップテンポからダウナーな曲まで、全て色彩感の違う曲が収録されている。
それでいて、どの曲もが個性を失うことなくそれぞれ光り輝いている。
どの曲も先鋭的で、小室らしく非常にエッジの効いた音作りがなされている。

KEIKOのボーカルとマークのラップも、いつもながらハイレベル。
前述のように、全く違う種類の多彩な曲ばかりだが、そのどれもでそれぞれを際立たせるように
的確に歌い上げているのがとても好印象だ。
『Wanna be〜』で見せる超ハイなシャウトはもはや伝説。
記憶に残っている人も多いだろう。

globeの作品全般にいえることだが、いつの時代に聴いても魅力が色あせない。
むしろ経年するほどに味を帯びてきているのだから何とも恐ろしい。
このアルバムも例にもれず、その通りである。
発売からかなりの時間が経過した今こそ、ついつい聴きたくなる1枚である。

先行シングル4曲が入っているということで、マーケティング的にどうかな
と思いましたが、
1.letting out a deep breath
2.across the street,cross the waters
11.illusion
といったファン受けする名曲が詰まっています。シングル4曲はアルバムで聴かないとしても、買って損しない内容になっています。

#1の“letting out a deep breath”は、globeの中では最も好きな曲です。
そして、このアルバムを自分が勝手に一言で表現するならば“曇り空”。
内容も地味でしっとりした曲だったり、プログレみたいな曲だったり、
どちらかというと一般受けはしそうにない曲が多い印象です。

歌詞的にも、「Relation」と名付けられたアルバムにおいて、
決して幸せで楽しいような感情を歌うのではなく、
どこか人間関係においての閉塞感を表現したような感じで、
その点でもやはり、“曇り空”のような印象を自分は持っています。
そしてこのアルバムの山場になっているのは、#10の“Perfume of love”。
自分に気づいて欲しいというような悲愴感にも似た叫びを、
KEIKOが高い声で歌い上げる、壮大なバラードです。
これは本当に良い曲、同時にこれがglobeにとっても、“売れた”と言える最後のシングルになってしまいました。
そしてラストの#11“illusion”で、
閉塞感の中に光が射したように、かすかな希望を感じて終わるという感じ。

無機質な冷たいシンセが延々と続くようなマニアックな一曲目から始まって、
ラストは希望を感じるような温かいバラードで終わるという、
アルバムの起承転結も良くまとまってて、評価できますね。
ちょっと前の大売れしてた頃のglobeと比べると、地味で落ち着いた印象だけに、
できれば一回聴いて切り捨てず、何回も聴き込んで欲しいタイプのCDかもしれません。
初めての時はあまりパッとしない曲が多いと感じたけど、
その後ジワジワとお気に入りにまでなった曲が何曲もあります。
今では、良い評価でレビューできるCDになってしまいました。お薦めです。
