スティーリー・ダンのファンの中には，最初は"Aja"や"Gaucho"から入門し，最後にこのアルバムにたどり着く人も少なくない。このアルバムは，バンド活動期からスタジオミュージシャンを駆使する時代に至るまでの過渡期の作品で，音楽の完成度は"Aja"や"Gaucho"には及ばないかもしれないが，心に響く「何か」を持っている。"Daddy don't live in that New York City"のような小気味良いロックから，ハービー・ハンコックも取り上げたジャズ色の強い佳品"Your Gold Teeth 2"まで幅の広い音楽を魅せるが，何よりも"Doctor Wu"や"Any World"のように，叙情性の強いメロディが最も印象に残る。マイケル・オマーティアンの弾く、ベーゼンドルファーのピアノの音色もすばらしい。

前作Pretzel Logicで確立した彼らの方法論をさらに発展させたのが
この作品だ。緩急自在というか縦横無尽というか、とにかく非のうち
どころのないポップアルバムに仕上がっている。
またボーカリストとしては語られることがあまりないドナルド・フェイゲン
だが、注意深く聞いていくとアルバムごとに微妙に表情が違う。
おそらくフェイゲンのボーカルが最も粘っこいのがこのアルバムだと
思うが、私のような熱心な（救いようのない）ファンにとっては
最も官能的なアルバムでもある。
ちなみにバックコーラスとしてマイケル・マクドナルドが参加するのは
このアルバムから。

そりゃあ完成度から言えば、「エイジャ」が一番ですよ。でもスティーリー・ダンが好きな人って、全部のアルバムが好きなんじゃないでしょうか。それぞれに思い入れがあるというか。で、僕の場合はこの「うそつきケイティ」を聴く事が多いかな。変な話、朝聴けるスティーリー・ダンは、このアルバムまで。「ローズ・ダーリン」なんて、やたらとポップだし。このアルバム以降、他のどんなバンド（？）にも作れない、独自な音楽を作り上げていく彼らの、最後の和み盤、と言えるかもしれない。でもよーく聴くと、やっぱり「ねじれてる」。そのさじ加減が絶妙。
