ソフト・ロックの代表作とされる歴史的な名盤。
名コンポーザーとしてカーペンターズの楽曲等を手がけていた、ロジャー・ニコルズの楽曲も勿論素晴らしいし、半数を占めるカバー曲はバカラック、レノン＆マッカートニー、ゴフィン＆キング、ラヴィン・スプーンフルと言った名前が並ぶ。

ストリングスのアレンジといいコーラスといい、どの曲もクオリティが高く奇跡的なハーモニーを奏でている。
どこまでも夢見心地できらめくようなサウンドは、永遠に色褪せることの無いポップサウンドの金字塔と言えるだろう。
発表された68年当時は評価が低かったと言われるけれど、ポップス職人のニコルズが残してくれた本当に奇跡のような宝物である。

全曲必聴の一枚。

ボーナストラックとして収録されている『ドリフター』を聞いてから大好きになりましたよ。最高のポップス！！『コンプリート~』以外のバージョンには入ってないので注意！！！買うならこのバージョンでね！

例えるなら、今年初めて降る雪が、美しいもの、そうでないものを分け隔てる事なく、全てのモノを平等に汚れない白で覆い尽くしていく魔法の光景をじっと眺めているようなそんな気分によく似ている。
全てのものが美しく、喜びに満ちた世界にいるような興奮と感動が交じり合った最高の気分。

それって結局現実逃避だって事は十分わかってるんだけど、連日連夜思わず目を覆いたくなるような悲しいニュースばかりがメディアを飛び交うこんな時代なんだから、せめてこのＣＤ聴いてる間くらい、嫌な事から逃げ出したってバチは当たんないよね。

もし今現在、現実の生活において、辛い思いをしていたり、何かに絶望して投げやりになってしまいそうな人がいたら、このＣＤ聴いて、そして聴き終わったら、もう少しだけ頑張ってみて下さい。
だって人はこんなにも素晴らしい音楽を作る事ができるんだから、夢と希望さえ失わなければ、きっと奇跡はおこるから。
