UK出身ロックバンド、クーラ・シェイカーの２ND。はっきり言って、このアルバムはすごい。一種のコンセプト・アルバムであるが、その一貫した姿勢、統一感（カヴァー・ワークも含めて）が素晴らしい。サイケデリック、インド音楽というキーワードが浮かんでくるが、安易に理解できないかもしれない。ただアルバムを通して聞いていると、なんらかの世界が、聞く手によってイメージされる。音楽的には、民族楽器の導入や、ホーンの導入、サイケデリックなコーラスワーク、効果音など、一つ一つの音を緻密に練り上げて行く。よくぞここまでこだわり、作り上げたという感じ。この後、解散してしまうのだが、作品の完成度を考えると、妙に納得してしまう。

前作では、勢いを前面に押し出したためか、
「ロック」というジャンルにはまっていた感じがありました。
この作品ではKULA SHAKERというジャンルが確立しており、
Vo.のクリスピアン・ミルズの世界観が形成されています。
前作に比べると激しさや勢いは抑えられていますが、
それ故に、音質、曲の構成、テクニック、いずれも一級品！

自分を含め1stではまった人には待ち遠しかったはずのセカンドアルバム。なのにバンドはリリース後解散、アルバムの評判も1stに比べるといまひとつだったのが残念でならない。

しかし、バンドの魅力である直線的なロックンロールと瞑想的なインド音楽のどちらも2ndは1stをはるかに凌いでいる。1stがギター主体なのに対して、2ndはベースドラムの存在感が増している。

シンプルなリズムの生み出すグルーブを前面に出したSound of Drumsや5拍子のS.O.Sなどいずれも1stより深みのある曲ばかり。

クリスピアンのソロバンドも1st回帰で本作の魅力はこれ1枚で途絶えている。だからこそ、この作品はkula shakerの最高傑作であり、今もなお聴きたいアクチュアルな1枚だ。
