　ジャケのイメージ通りの淡い水彩画のような音楽が聴ける名盤。
　ジャケットになぜ侍が描かれているのか正確なことはわからないのですが、中身そのものは確かに日本的な繊細さが溢れており、これを聴いて何も感じない日本人はほとんどいないのではないんでしょうかと言いたくなるほどです。
　丁寧に作られたやさしく美しい音づくり、泣きまくるギター、美しいヴォーカルライン…息を呑むぐらい素晴らしいです。プログレというイメージを抜きにしても十分感動できるアルバムでしょう。メロディアスなロックが好きな人にも聴いてもらいたいです。
　個人的には｢Goin' Away｣｢Out Of The Night｣の構成と泣きのギターに大感動してしまったんですが、｢Fields Of Gold｣のオープニングのささやくようなコーラスと展開。そして当時シングルヒットしたバラード｢Sister Jane｣の感動的なVo。ここまで日本人の琴線に触れる音楽はそうはないのではないでしょうか。文句なしの☆５つです。
　サウンドプロデュースが向上した２ndの｢Windows｣はこの１stよりも洗練された印象もありますが、それぞれの好みといったところでしょうが、美しさと繊細さは損なわれることのない名盤でおすすめです。

究極の悲哀がココにある。邦題が「恐るべき静寂」とは良く言ったものだ。どうしても今なお語り継がれる名バラードSister Janeに焦点がいってしまうが、このアルバムのハイライトはなんと言ってもFields Of Goldと続くOut Of The Nightだろう。この2曲は歌詞を追いながら目を瞑って聴き込めばあたかも目の前に曲の光景が浮かび上がるかのような視覚効果（マジック）を持っている。そのドラマティックで幻想的な、見事なまでの曲の構成とアレンジが一層感動を引きたている。あまりにも美しく、あまりにも強烈で、あまりにも悲しい。心の琴線に響きわたるその「恐るべき静寂」は20数年経っても褪せる事がない。またリズミカルで練り練った構成で唸らせるプログレ・ハードの1曲目なども名曲だ。

フランスのプログレバンド75年の1st。難解さはなく、メロディを重視したわかりやすい作風なので、プログレを知らない人にもオススメ。今となってはプログレに分類することは間口を狭めてしまってこの作品にとってマイナスかも。さほどフランス的ではなく歌詞も英語、国独特のクセがないという点でも入りやすい。日本人好みの哀愁のメロディが満載、シンフォニックだがキーボードだけでなくギターの活躍が多く、テク主眼ではない構築的でよく練られたアンサンブルも素晴らしい。ハードロック寄り、後の「プログレハード」と呼ばれた音楽に近いかもしれない。ドラマチックで泣ける一枚。
「ゴーイン・アウェイ」は前半のキャッチーな展開で「え？これ本当にプログレなの？」と一瞬戸惑うが、途中から独特の雰囲気になってくる。後半は幻想的で泣かせる展開！高らかに情念を吐き出したボーカルに続いて悲しみにたそがれるギターソロが感動的。聞いてる内に、前半の展開も凝ったアレンジがなされていることに気付く。「シスタージェーン」はオルガンや儚げなコーラスに彩られたバラード。「聖使の羽飾り」は爽やかに駆けるインスト部と、穏やかでファンタジックなボーカル部の対比がドラマチック。「時の流れの中に」はピアノ伴奏のポップなバラード風だが、騒々しく怪奇なハードロックへ急変。ハードな展開が去った後に残される空漠感のある演奏が良い。最終的には甘く懐かしいメロディへ。「黄金の草原」は壮大なドラマを感じさせる。前半はセンチメンタルなメロディでゆったり聞かせるが、いつの間にか雲行きが悲愴になり、シンセが厳かに流れ、ギターがうなるインスト部。「闇の彼方へ」はオルガンとボーカルを軸に淡々と緻密にアンサンブルを積み上げていき、じわじわと感動を誘う。個人的にはこの後半2曲が特に好きだ。
