１９５５年テキサス州ダラス生まれ。３歳年上の兄、ジミーの影響でギターを
始め、その後オースティンのローカルバンドでプレイしていたところを、たま
たま観ていたミック ジャガーが絶賛、その後８２年 大物プロデューサーの
ジョン ハモンドに認められて、エピックと契約。デビット ボウイのバックで一躍注目を浴び、自らダブル トラブルを率いてデビューを飾った。
これは、その亡き恩師ジョン ハモンド「自分の真実のヒーロー、ジョン ハモンドの思い出に捧げる」として、ワイルドでエモーショナルなプレイに魂を込めている。

　SRVはギター好きならまず知らないことは無いだろう。彼のギターにSRVと彫ってあることは有名だし、そもそもFenderからSingnatureモデルは出るし、ピックアップのTexs Spetialも有名。さらには浸かっているエフェクターからIbanezのエフェクターに注目が集まったことも。
　スゴイ影響力である。一方で音はギターのオンパレードである。（前作もそうだが。）熱情的に弾くそのスタイルは、現代にて圧倒的だった。豊かなビブラートに酔うし、弦をはじくアタックが非常に強く、ものすごく音が太い。シングルコイルとは思えない。２音半はあると思えるチョーキングを一瞬でやってしまったりと、恐ろしい情熱的なギターだ。
魂の音楽と思いきや、ジャズ的なものもある。（最終曲のRiviera Paradise)。
　前作より、さらに音数（密度）が濃くなった作品。お酒を飲みながら聴くのも良い。さらに酔いそうなものだ。

スティーヴィー・レイ・ヴォーンのスタジオ4作目です。ドラッグ中毒からの復帰作だとか、これが遺作となってしまったとか、ジョン・ハモンドに捧げられているとか、背景を知ると様々な思いに囚われますが、まずはこのホワイトブルースをたっぷりと楽しみたいところ。様々なブルースのスタイルを気合を込めてプレイしています。黒人のプレイに比べるとギターやボーカルに粘りがあるのがホワイトの彼らしいところ。ややロック寄りのブルースと言えます。
