5.0 out of 5 stars The Blue Nileの最高傑作, 2007/8/24
決して派手な音楽ではない。しかし、音の隙間のエコー処理は実に天才的。
デビューしてから約20年の間に発表されたアルバムはたったの４枚。
まぁ、もともとクオリティが高いから、多くを望むべくもないのだけれども。
収録曲の「The Downtown Lights」は
ユーリズミックスのアニー・レノックスが『Medusa』で、
ロッド・スチュワートが『A Spanner In The Works』で
カバーしています。

なんという無駄のない音作り。すべてが研ぎ澄まされた歌の数々。
スコットランド・グラスゴー出身だそうですが、どこか”ケルト”
の雰囲気がありますね。「ミュージシャンズ・ミュージシャン」
といわれるのわかります。パーフェクトです。

初めて聴いた夜のことをいまだに覚えています。これはいったい、何という音楽なんだ…！坐ったまま動けなくなり、文字通りフリーズして聴き入っておりました。響きの一つ一つが、さまざまな色合いのブルーを感じさせながら静かに漂い、胸の奥深いところに染み入ってくるような…今思い出していても目の裏側がじわっとするような、忘れがたい体験でした。ほんとに寡作のグループですが、最新作"High"のリリ-ス直前にこのアルバムに出会ったのはまさしく天の導きというべきか。４作とも入手して聴きました。それぞれに好きですが、やはり最初の出合いがじーんと来て、このアルバムはほんとにかけがえのない一枚です。スコットランドのグループやネオ・アコに遅ればせながらはまっていく契機となった一枚でもありますが、この出合いはちょっと別格。妥協をせずに作り込んだ本物の音楽だけが与えてくれる感動です。
