   ロックンロールの世界にはよくあることだが、汗をかかずに気楽につくった偶然の産物の方が、時代を決定づける記念碑的作品にしようと人生をすり減らして放った作品よりも出来がいいことがある。それと同じ目にオアシスがあったのが3作目の『Be Here Now』で、ノエルとリアム兄弟は顔を真っ赤にして汗だくになりながら奮闘し、靴下の中に入れた古びたエッグ・サンドイッチなような悪臭を漂わせるはめになった。ところが、シングルのカップリング曲とライヴテイクを集めただけの本作が1年後にリリースされると、リスナーの誰もが、そもそも何故この毛深い兄弟のファンになったかという理由をあっさりと思い出したのだ。

 「Acquiesce」――心配しなくていい。オアシスは、このタイトルの意味はわからないが言葉の響きが気に入ったんだと認めている――は、シングルにならなかった曲のなかでは最高の曲だ。それとは対照的に『Be Here Now』の「D'You Know What I Mean?」は、確信犯的な弟が怒鳴り散らしているせいで、年老いた上品な老婆がせきこんでいるかのように聞こえる。悲しげな「Rockin' Chair」――もうひとつの“幻の”名曲だ――は成功しているが、ビートルズのカバーの実にひどいライヴテイク「I Am The Walrus」は、本物のセイウチに歌わせているかのようだ。だが、それはたいした問題ではない。本作には、オアシスの最近のキャリアに欠けている魔法のようなサウンドがみなぎっているのだから。（Caitlin Moran, Amazon.co.uk）

98年リリース。これまで発売されたシングルB面曲の中から、一応は"ファン投票によって選ばれた"ことになっている曲により構成されたベストアルバム。おそらくファンであれば誰しもが「なんでこの曲が入ってないんだ！？」と感じる部分があるとは思いますが、カップリングも名曲揃いなOasisなだけに、それはまぁ仕方ないかなといった感じもします。

それにしても本当にこれがB面の曲なのかと耳を疑いたくなるぐらい、素晴らしい曲群に埋め尽くされてます。ライブではお馴染みの"Acquiesce"や、2nd期のツアーにおける1発目の曲としても有名な超絶インストソング"The Swamp Song"。雄大なストリングスとNoelの爪弾くアコギの音色が最高な"Going Nowhere"、イントロが"Supersonic"にそっくりなものの、かなりの名曲"Listen Up"や、ライブでは滅多に披露されなかった泣きの名曲"Rockin' Chair"。そして韻を踏んだlyricsで意味の分かり難いものが多いOasisの曲群において、珍しくストレートに歌詞が飛び込んでくる"Stay Young"(この曲にはどれだけ勇気づけられたことか・・・)など、個々の素晴らしい曲と共に不思議とアルバムとしてのまとまりさえ感じさせてしまう「名盤」です。

これがB面だとは信じられない。凄すぎる･･･。全部シングルで発売してもおかしくないくらいの出来だと思う。特にいいと思ったのは、
Stay Young,この曲めっちゃカッコイイ!すごい勇気づけられると思う!
そして、Rockin' Chair,もんのすごく切ないです。なんか泣きそうになってきます。心に響いてきますよ。
そして最後のノエルボーカルのThe Masterplan,なんでこんないい曲を作れるの?って感じです。めちゃくちゃいい!
他にもいい曲はたくさん収録されてるけど、特にこの3曲が最高だと思いました。
まだ聴いた事がない人は聴いてください。多分ビックリするでしょう

これが全部B面の曲だっていうんだからoasisはスゴイですよ。
知らない人が聞いてもB面だとは思わないぐらいの
曲の完成度の高さ。
他のアルバムを聞いてoasisを好きになったら
聞いてみてください。
