5.0 out of 5 stars GFR渾身のロック魂！, 2004/5/9
　初期の作品を凌ぐ爆音をリミッターで抑えながら殆どライブに近い状態で録音されているので、全てのボーカル/楽器が前面に出て、まるで目の前で演奏しているような音作りがされています。このためGFR独特のドライブのかかった演奏が充分楽しめます。楽曲についてもよく練られている一方、精神錯乱状態に満ち溢れており、特に12は原盤には無い曲ですが、マークとメルが絡む間奏部分はGFRならではのインプロビゼーションパターンが炸裂！
　ザッパによりこのバンドのよい部分が十二分に引き出された、アメリカ合衆国建国200周年発表GFR渾身の一撃！最高です。

　邦題が「熱い激突」というグランド・ファンクのラスト・アルバム。とはいっても、実は「驚異の暴走列車」より前に録音されたもので、プロデュースを担当したフランク・ザッパが録音後に持ち帰り半年以上もミックス・ダウンを行っていたため発売が遅れリリース日程が前後してしまったそうです（ビートルズの「レット・イット・ビー」みたいですね）。
　アルバムでは最初の３曲がシングル・カットされていますがヒットしていません。なお、ザッパは"Out to Get You"のギターや"Rubberneck"のバック・ボーカルでも参加しています。再CDでの再発が遅れたこともあり、一時期は幻の名盤的な扱いを受けていたこともあるようです。
　初期とはまた異なる洗練された荒々しさがある、よく出来た作品です。これをグランド・ファンクの最高傑作と言う人が何人もいるのも納得の名盤と思います（とはいえ、星5つは甘いかも・・・）。

ZappaとGFRという意外な組み合わせ。
これが大正解で、間違いなくこのバンドの最高傑作。
特にA面にあたる5曲目までの展開とB面1曲目のZappaのギターは奇跡的。

グランド・ファンクというバンドは、一見へヴィーだが結構軽やかなサウンド・テイストを持っていて、おそらく曲の展開のキーとなる音がべースによるからだと思うけどギターは弾きまくるけどギター・バンドとは違うテイストが持ち味だった。
Zappaのギター主体のロックのイディオムとは少し異なるアプローチがこれと見事にマッチしたのであろう。

アルバム全体にトータルな陶酔が感じられ、センチメンタリズムとヴァイオレンスの共存した良質のアメリカン・ロックが聞かれる。
