自身がディレクションした映像と共に'80年に発表された傑作ライヴ。ジャズに影響を受け、自身の音楽の中に採り入れて表現力をますます拡大し続ける中、ここでは、Jaco Pastorius(b)、Pat Metheny(g)、Lyle Mays(key)、Michael Brecker(ts)、Don Alias(ds/perc)という驚異のスーパーバンドを率いて、旧作も新たなアレンジとなって生まれ変わり、バンドの演奏のすばらしさも含めて新鮮な驚きに満ちたパフォーマンスとなっている。また、それぞれ個々のメンバーのソロパフォーマンスも披露されたり、ゴスペルグループのThe Persuasionsとの共演もあったりとお楽しみ満載の豪華なショーである。ジョニの凄いところは、どんなに個性の強いミュージシャンを起用しても、あくまでジョニの音楽のパーツとして使いこなしてしまうところだ。また、ジョニの音楽をバンドメンバー達が良く理解し、愛情をもって演奏していることがよくわかる。映画のシーンを効果的に挿入したり、聴衆の目線でショーを描いたりしている凝った映像作品(DVD化)もお薦めである。

　共演メンバーを見るだけで名演が予想できるだろう。もしハービー・ハンコックが加わっていたら完璧だったのに、ということが惜しまれる（当初はその予定もあったそうだ）。
　まず冒頭の「フランスの恋人たち」に圧倒される。ジョニは特に感情を高ぶらせることもなく淡々と歌っている印象を受けるのだが、彼女に触発された天才ジャコ・パストリアスのベースが、フレーズが繰り返される度にグレード・アップされていく様は驚かされる。天才を本気にさせるだけの力が彼女にはあるということだろう。
　選曲も、この時点での代表曲が選ばれているのでよいのだが、難点は、彼女独特のコード・チェンジがいったん飲み込めてしまうと、だんだんその進行に飽きてきてしまうことである。名演だということは百も承知なのだが、飽きずに聴き通すことは、少なくともわたくしにとっては難しい、ということは残念ながら事実だ。
