5オクターブとも言われる彼女の美しいハイ・トーン・ヴォイスが特徴ですが、元々は彼女の子供たちに歌った「子守り唄」なのです。

スロー・バラードで、バックに小鳥のさえずりがずっと流れているもので、彼女の名前を一躍有名にした曲です。Ｒ＆Ｂという範疇を超えて万人に愛されるポップスですね。
その愛すべきバラードは、その後日本でもヒットし、今でもよく聴かれています。

この美しいメロディーを彼女はとても優しく慈しむように歌っています。良く聴けばとても難しいオクターブ以上の跳躍も難なく軽やかに歌いきっています。テクニックの凄さを感じさせないところに天性の歌姫の才能を感じます。
甘さと温かみが内在する声質や、ハートフルだけれど、透明で可憐な歌唱がまた愛される所以でしょう。

スティーヴィー・ワンダーに見出されて、プロデュースされたこの「ラヴィン・ユー」は大ヒットしましたが、その4年後、31歳の時、乳癌のために亡くなりました。2人の幼い子供を残しての旅だちです。歌いつづけていたら、ダイアナ・ロスを超えるような大歌手になっていたかも知れませんのに。

「ラヴィン・ユー」は、30年経った今でもよく聴かれています。その透明でキュートな歌声は、ＣＤの中に今も息づいています。本当に素晴らしい歌唱でした。

「ラヴィン・ユー」はあのソウルトレインなんかでもやっていた彼女の持ち歌です。ミニーの絶品の８オクターヴの声だからこそできる曲で昨今のカバーの気の抜けたこと、一度これを聴いたらミニーじゃなきゃいられなくなります。

でもこの曲をきくたび目頭があつくなるのは若すぎるあの人の死をおもいだしてしまうからです。ミニーの歌っている画像も捜しだしてみるべし！きっとファンになります。

ラヴィンユー目的で購入したが、
それ以外の曲の完成度に驚いた。

他の曲も今でも十分聴ける。
しかも、とてもファンキーなんです。
美声を上手く活かしてあり、
一発だけのアルバムではありません。

古き良き１枚！
