ハイドンのオラトリオ「四季」のカラヤン唯一の録音です。合唱団にはカラヤンの宗教音楽の録音には珍しく、ウィーン楽友協会合唱団ではなく、ベルリン・ドイツ・オペラ合唱団を起用しています。「天地創造」ほどドラマティックな曲ではないのですが、カラヤンはこのやや地味な曲にコントラストをできるだけつけて演奏しています。この曲の名盤にはベーム盤もありますが、カラヤン盤はそれより派手です。
