キューバの神童,ゴンサロの3年ぶりのリーダー作は,これまでの彼のイメージとはちょっと変わり,エレクトリック・サウンドも多用した内容になっている。グループ・サウンドを重視し,コンテンポラリーなサウンドにチャレンジしている意欲作だ。リズムがすごい。

3年ぶりのスタジオ録音。注目は「シルクイトII」を発展させた「同III」と「同IV」が収録されていることだ。お馴染みのメンバーによる演奏は、しかしながらフレッシュな感覚に満ちあふれている。ゴンサロ・ルバルカバの売りは超絶的なテクニックにあったはずだ。ただしここでは詩的な表現にも卓越したものを聴かせてくれる。これは恐るべき勇壮な叙情詩だ。しかも音楽が壮大な広がりを見せる。当然のことながら彼の演奏はラテン・ミュージックにその原点を持つ。そこにビバップからの影響を強く取り込んだゴンサロだが、ここではそうしたものを消化したうえで、ジャズ版ウェザー・リポートのような演奏を繰り広げる。しかも今回の作品は「オープニング」で始まって「クロージング」で終わるというコンセプト・アルバムの体裁を取るものだ。これはゴンサロが渾身の力を込めた一大音楽絵巻である。それにしても強力なタッチの裏側に潜む彼のリリシズムとパッションに満ちた表現は胸を打つ。 (小川隆夫) --- 1997年08月号

オープニングのコミカルなメロディーから，このCDがいわゆる普通のジャズのCDではないことを感じさせます。２曲目の速いテンポの「シルクイト3」は聴いていて常に緊張感を強いられ，途中キューバの暑い太陽に照らされているような，あるいは熱病にうなされたかのような錯覚を持ちます。後に続く曲の数々もとても「リズムに乗って」という感じではありません。突然の変拍子と奇っ怪なメロディーの続出。しかし一旦慣れてしまうと病みつきになってしまうのが不思議です。それにしても，相変らずこのCDでも「ゴンサロの指はよくこれだけ動くものだ！」と驚愕せざるを得ません。
