　鉄兜をかぶった少年兵士のカバー写真と、ほかのレビュアーの熱い讃辞とに惹かれて購入、初めてＵ２の音楽に触れました。最初の「PRIDE」、次の「NEW YEAR’S DAY」と、この二曲を聴いたあたりで、このバンドが作り出すノリのいい、実に心地よいサウンドの虜になりました。自由の息吹と、溌剌としたセンスの質の高さとを感じるサウンドと言ったらいいのか･･････。とにかく、音楽に身を任せてこんなに気持ちのいい思いになったのは、本当に久しぶりでした。
　映画『GOOD WILL HUNTING』のラストシーン、鳥かごから孤高の鳥が羽ばたき、飛び立つ姿（そういうシーンは、実際にはないのですが。そのように受け取ったラスト・シーン、てことで）に通じる、稀有な才能の輝きを感じるサウンドに、心を揺さぶられましたね。素晴らしいなあ、この音楽は。
　2007年４月１日の日曜日の午後。初めてＵ２のサウンドに接して、わくわくした至福の時間を、私は忘れないでしょう。遅まきながらこの音楽と出会うことができたことに、感謝。そう仕向けてくれた下記レビュアーの方々に、感謝。

曲目全てが懐かしいです。
あの頃のＵ２、好きでした。
今も好きなことには変わりはありませんが、
この時代の曲には特別な思い入れがあります。
まったく遜色のないベストアルバムです。
これからＵ２聴いてみようかな、と思っている方にも、
最高の入門編となるでしょう。
是非、聴いてみてください！

U2の作品を一枚、最初に買うのであれば・・・私はこの一枚はとてもU2のことが分かりやすく収録されていると思います。何故ならU2好きの方には初期３作好きとか中期が好き・・・等色々な意見がありますがこれは程よいバランスで入っているのではないか？と思うからです。しかし、初期の方からもう１〜２曲位あっても良かったのかな？とは思いますが。。曲のスケール、空気感、やはり他のバンドに無いモノを持っています。ボンジョヴィ等に比べ派手さは無いのに気付いたら愛聴盤になっているバンド。するめいかのようなバンドです。どこか瑞々しい感じはやはりアイルランドという彼らの土壌があっての事でしょうか。しかしながら、悲しい歴史を持つアイルランドでの事件を歌詞にした「Sunday Bloody Sunday」の歌詞等その見所はメロディだけに留まりません。また、ギタリストのエッジの仕事ぶりは当時ハードロック全盛の時代ながら、出ては消えていった多くのバンド達とは何処か違うベクトルを目指していた事をこのベスト盤で証明しています。
