ミニマルにヴォーカルを入れればこれだけステキになる、という証拠がこのアルバムです。何も知らずに聴いたならばミニマルの大家ジョン・アダムズの作曲であるとは気付かないかも知れない、ミニマル入門としておすすめできるPopでJazzyな一枚です。

多くのミニマルミュージックにヴォーカルが入らないのはどうしてでしょうか。入っても歌わせて貰えないのはどうしてでしょうか。
ミニマリズムの特徴（特長ではなく）の一つに「無機質さ」ということが挙げられると思いますが、ヴォーカルはその無機質さを損なってしまう（と思われている）ため、あまり取り入れられていないのではないでしょうか。

しかしこのアルバムは、ミニマルの魅力は無機質さではない、ということを最も端的な形で示してくれます。むしろわずかな差異を伴った反復によって際立つある種の豊穣さこそがミニマルの素晴らしさであり、"I was looking at the ceiling, and then I saw the sky"のユニゾンでもたらされる非常なカタルシスこそが、ミニマルとヴォーカルの幸福な「コラボレーション」の結果である、ということを体現しているアルバムです。
