John Foxx不在のUltravoxはやや軽視されるかもしれない。でもこのアルバムは素晴らしい。冒頭のReap The Wild Windの開放感に満ちたメジャーなトラックを聴いていると何かこう前向きな開けた感じがする。ほのかな明るさを持ったトラックが多いのがこのアルバムの特徴か。George Martinプロデュースというのは意外な感じ。George Martinは何でも出来る人なんだなぁ。。Ultravoxの潔癖なところが案外、George Martinと相性良かったのか。John Foxxの方はmetamaticというsolo 1stでやっぱりある種の世界観に彩られた無機質空間的なアルバムを作ってる。これもまたカッコいい。スゴイ可能性を秘めたバンドだったんだなぁ、、と。

今回は長年プロデュースを担当した師匠とも言えるコニー・プランク氏ではなく
ビートルズの元マネージャーだったジョージ・マーティンを迎えての作品です。
さすがにニュロマンティック3作目となるとまとまる所にまとまった感があり、
上品な汚れの無いエリートポップを聞かせてくれます。

来日公演で名前を忘れましたがバックアップヴォーカルに男性二人組を起用するなどより一層ヴォーカルを前面に際立たせた作品です。
第二期ULTRAVOXは一つのテーマに絞り作品を創る傾向があるようです、
つまり好きな方は最高傑作の呼び声の高いこの作品も
好きでない方からすれば「どれを聞いても同じ」と言われてしまいます。

因みにこの作品発売当初にスミスのモリッシーが
「10年以内に消えてなくなる??ンド」のトップにULTRAVOXを挙げていたのを覚えています
汚れを知らない・美しさ・エリートがゆえに冒険や実験ができないしないのもこのULTARVOXの良さでしょう。
良く言えばファンは絶対に裏切りません、
聞いていて不快に成ることや損をさせることもありません。
「hymn」「reap the wild wind」は名曲です、
個人的には「mine for life」がこの作品を栄えさせていると思います

4.0 out of 5 stars ミッジ・ユーロの上品なウルトラヴォックス, 2001/11/8
大ヒットした「ニュー・ユーロピアン」の後に出したこのカルテットは全体的にそつなくまとまっていて非常に聞きやすく一曲目「リープ・ザ・ワイルド・ウィンド」のイントロから鳥肌が出るほど美しい。言うなれば上品な感じを受ける。丁度彼等がこのアルバム出した後の来日公演を見に行った事あるんですが、ステージから機材から全部を灰色に塗り尽くしたセンスも何だか英国の（？）上品さみたいなものを感じました。
