アルバムのタイトルは1996年発売ということで、「1996」と命名されたそうです。坂本さんの名曲を、ピアノ・チェロ・ヴァイオリンのトリオ編成で聴かせてくれます。チェロがジャック・モレレンバウム、ヴァイオリンはエバートン・ネルソンの演奏が多いようです。トリオで聴くと曲の良さがより鮮明に感じとれるのはなぜでしょう。「ラストエンペラー」では、ヴァイオリンが二胡のパートを演じ、それにチェロが重なっていきます。「戦場のメリークリスマス」は、このアルバムのヴァージョンが一番好きです。坂本さん曰く「まあ、一生に一枚作るかっていう種類のアルバムですね。」だそうです。

坂本龍一の選りすぐりの名曲たちをトリオオーケストラ
でリメイクした名盤。

カテゴリーを越えた定番です。
忙しい人も、暇な人も、貧乏な人も、お金持ちの人も
音楽が好きなら是非一聴することをお勧めします。
20世紀までの地球上の音楽の中でも、かなり良質なものです。

大ヒットしたエナジーフローが好きな人なら間違いないオススメの一枚です。
クラシックのフランス印象派にも似た揺らぎが心地よく、心が落ち着きます。
忙しく、煩わしく、疲れきった一日の最後に、凪を取り戻してくれる。
本当の音楽ってこういうものなんじゃないかな、って思います。
私にとって宝物の一枚です。

まさに教授！という感じの一枚。何となく坂本龍一がいいなぁ~と思っていた人にお勧めです。現代音楽っぽいんだけど難解ではなく、とても自然に入り込めます。
