   本作は1953年から始まるシナトラのキャピトルにおける初期の10インチLP2枚、「ソングス・フォー・ヤング・ラヴァーズ」と「スイング・イージー」をカップリングしたきわめつけの作品。前者はバラード中心、後者はスインギーなアルバムなので、それらをセットにした本作ではシナトラの静と動、両面を堪能できる。この時代にシナトラは、アイドル歌手から大人の歌手へと脱皮した。ジャズ・センスあふれるフレージングの妙、抜群のリズム感、バラードにみせる細やかな感情表現、どれをとっても、これぞスタンダード・ヴォーカルのお手本といえる見事な歌いっぷりだ。ネルソン・リドルの洒脱なアレンジも素晴らしい。（市川正二）

This CD pairs the first two 10-inch records Sinatra recorded for Capitol. In 1955, full-length albums by popular singing stars were still few and far between. These two platters marked the beginning of Sinatra's phenomenally successful relationship with conductor-arranger Nelson Riddle, and presaged the "concept albums" that would become such an important part of Sinatra's Capitol period. Songs for Young Lovers includes such romantic numbers as "My Funny Valentine" and "I Get a Kick Out of You," while Swing Easy offers up danceable versions of "All of Me," "Just One of Those Things," and others. Sinatra sounds great, and there's magic galore in these grooves. --Dan Epstein

歌手は表面的な人気だけでなく、聞き手に真の実力を伝え長く生きるには、その歌手に合った曲を選び声に合う編曲をしバンドメンを揃えることが求められる。このシナトラとプロデューサーのVoyle Gilmoreとネルソン・リドルの組み合わせは、まさにこの最高の組み合わせといえる。フルバンドでなく人数を抑えギター・ヴァイブなど音量を抑えた楽器編成でシナトラもリラックスして声量をフルに出さず心地よく歌っている。ハートウォームなキャピトル時代を通じてもベストの録音ではないだろうか。何度聴いても聞き惚れてしまう。

ｷｬﾋﾟﾄﾙ時代のｼﾅﾄﾗは、まさしく「歌の本質」に迫っている。ｺﾛﾝﾋﾞｱ時代も悪くはないのだが、このｷｬﾋﾟﾄﾙでの2回目のｾｯｼｮﾝである『Songs For Young Lovers』を聴くとｺﾛﾝﾋﾞｱ時代は口先だけで歌っているように受けとれてしまう。ｼﾅﾄﾗ本人の力だけでなく、ｱﾚﾝｼﾞｬｰのﾈﾙｿﾝ･ﾘﾄﾞﾙの功績が大なのか？@の大ｽﾀﾝﾀﾞｰﾄﾞはまさにｼﾅﾄﾗ流に見事歌い上げている。Aの0分54秒から1分05秒の間、一気に歌いまくるなんてやはりｼﾅﾄﾗ。（さりげなく歌っていると途中ﾌﾞﾚｽしてしまう）当時38歳だが、この歌唱を中卒でｼｮｰﾋﾞｼﾞﾈｽに入り独学でここまでくるんだからたいしたもんだ。

フランク・シナトラの歌声は古きよき時代のアメリカを髣髴とさせる。そう、アメリカン・ドリームという言葉が生きていた疲弊する前の元気で夢のある時代である。どこまでも男らしく、優しく語り掛けるシナトラの歌声はダンディズムの極致であり、ジャズがスタンダードとして定着していく過程を捉えている。Just One of Those Things、All of Meといったスタンダードが後の多くの歌手に歌い続けられても、やっぱりシナトラのそれがオリジナルなものに聴こえてしまう。Like Someone in Love、I Get a Kick Out of Youといった明るい愛の歌もMy Funny Valentineのような切ないバラードもシナトラ流ラブソングとして料理されるのである。16曲もの素晴らしいスタンダード曲が楽しめる、まさにフランク・シナトラの決定版といっていいアルバムである。
