FUGEES「The Score」も黄昏ていたが、この名盤も負けぬほどに夕陽に包まれていた。こころの夕焼け色の中にある思い出、彼女自身を作り上げたもの。そういうシナリーのひとつひとつを彼女は情感豊かに表現している。
例えば、女の内にある優しさも強さも、心象的な“懐かしさ”（＝黄昏）と共に、せつせつと伝えられてくる。この“懐かしさ”の抽象さは文化やことばを超えた何かがあり、うたごえだけ聴いていても、こんな東洋の人間にもそれは伝わる。彼女のうたは「伝える」ということに関しては、そんじょそこらのR&Bシンガーを確実に凌駕している力があるのだ。

そういう、イメージを伝えるちからの源は、ことごとく彼女のうたごころにある。単に歌が上手いとかそういう技術的なことを言うのではない（勿論技術があるから止揚できるレベルに彼女はある）。そのうたごころは空気感や人肌を感じさせる説得力というのか、伝えたいイメージを口から出す際にこえによってその姿を立体的に表せる業だといえる。そこにある小さな光や影、でこぼこさえも、歌い方の微妙な柔軟性と自由さで表現できてしまう。勿論その根底にあるイメージへの愛をくみ出しながらである（このイメージへの接近がなければただの技術屋に留まる）。こういうイメージの作り方が誰よりもVIVIDに出来、目の前に歌声だけで創りみせてくれること、即ち「伝える」強さこそ彼女の表現の特徴だと思い知らされた。

HIPHOPという無限の可能性ある表現媒体では、ついつい技術至上主義になってしまう場合があるが、今作では彼女のうたごころがHIPHOPという媒体力を最大限に発揮せしめている点に、他との差異を感じる。

このCDを聴くと鼻腔に沈丁花や淡いプアゾンの香りが漂って来る。優れた音楽は嗅覚を刺激するのだ。毅然としたラップと自然なヴォーカルのバランスが絶妙。もし、ラップがこのバランスで入っていなかったらここまで印象が引き締まりはしなかったであろう。冬の日だまり、春の宵、真夏の夜、秋の午後など四季の折々にフィットするはずだ。聴いていると元気づけられるし、不思議に落ち着く。このひと月、毎日通勤時に車の中で聴いているが、全く飽きることがない。滅多に無い完璧な作品。２００３年の時点で１２００万枚以上売れていると聞くが、一家に一枚常備して欲しいアルバムと言いたい。絶対に買って損はしないと断言できる。

フージーズのメンバー、ローリン・ヒルのソロデビューアルバム。リズムとメロディに言葉を語るように乗せて歌い上げるローリン節（アレステッド・ディベロップメントに似た所あるがよりR&B性が高い）と言ったところか。彼女自身がプロデュースしたアルバムはクオリティ高し。Can't take my eyes off of you のカバーもうれしい。1998GRAMMY・Album Of The Year ,Best New Artist ,Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ,Best Rhythm & Blues Song, Best R&B Album受賞作品
