これは「スラッシュメタルの魅力」を示したアルバムとして、最高峰に位置するものだと思います。


ただテンポが速いだけなのではなく、
リフがカッコ良いことや曲に緩急を付けることなどによってメロディアスでなくとも聴いて快感を得ることが出来る、
というスラッシュメタルとしての魅力を彼等はこのアルバムで実によく表現しています。

ちなみに自分は、全ての曲が気に入ったワケではありませんが、 ハマると一生付き合っていく事になる曲も収録されています。


スラッシュメタルの魅力とはどんなものか、聴けばそれが分かるアルバムです。

孤高のスラッシャー、SLAYERの代表作にして、
あまりにも有名なスラッシュ・メタル好きならマスト･アイテムのアルバムです。
今更自分のようなものが特筆することなど無いですね（汗）
SLAYERの代表曲として今でもライブで披露される1.Angel Of Deathを筆頭に、
30分に満たない時間で10曲を収録し、bpm180は当たり前、
ディストーションの効いた金きり声のようなギター、強迫的な２バス・ドラム、
鬼気迫るヴォーカル、究極に尖りきった名作です。

中坊の頃、初めてこのアルバムを聴いた時の衝撃は今でもはっきり覚えてます。その当時、ラジオでメタ○カのRIDE THE LIGHTNINGを聴いて世の中にはこんな音楽もあるんだなぁと感動してた所に、REIGN IN BLOODを聴いちゃったもんですっかり他の音楽に興味を無くす程、どっぷりハマってしまったもんです。劇的なスピードの中に垣間見るテクニカルな演奏技術、一度聴いたら頭を離れないメロディとシャウト、全てにおいてほぼ完成してしまった感がありました。（特にデイブのドラミングにゾッコンでした。）今でこそ、この手の音楽はゴマンといるかもしれませんが、あの当時、真に時代の壁を突き破り、後に続く時代を導いた、そんな神がかり的なアルバムだと確信しています。
