ブーレーズによる、エドガー・ヴァレーズの作品集ですが、ニューヨークフィル時代の「アメリカ」「アルカナ」「イオニゼーション」は、１９７７年頃の録音（アナログ録音）で、この年、ニューヨークフィルの常任指揮者からＩＲＣＡＭの初代所長となり、１９８４年にＥＩＣ.（アンサンブル・インター・コンテンポラン）を指揮、監修したデジタル録音が残りの曲です。オーケストラ曲は、ニューヨークフィルを指揮したものですが、緊張感が高く、名演として有名な「イオニゼーション」（当時、長岡鉄男さんが録音も含め絶賛した）は勿論、２４分かかる「アメリカ」も、だれさせない名演です。ＥＩＣ.との録音は、このリマスター盤以前に１ＣＤになっていますが、ここに収められていない録音は、カーターの作品に入っています。ヴァレーズは、グラモフォンへの再録音もありますが、切れ味鋭い指揮ぶりも捨てがたいので、是非聴いて下さい。

まず一つ。アメリカはサイレンが小さい。ほかの曲では、打楽器にはキレがあるが、曲のテンポ自体には･･　ってとこです。
