ビートルズのアップル・レコードからリリースされたビリー・プレストンのソロ・アルバム。ビリー・プレストンは、ビートルズと古い付き合いで「ゲット・バック」のレコーディングに参加し、映画「レット・イット・ビー」でも屋上コンサートに加わっている。この作品に意欲を見せたのは、ジョージ・ハリスン。ビートルズの「アビー・ロード」と並行する形でレコーディングが進んだ。ビリー・プレストンは「アビー・ロード」にも参加していると言われている。そういう彼のソロには、物凄いミュージシャンが集められた。エリック・クラプトン、ジンジャー・ベイカー、キース・リチャーズ、クラウス・ブアマンそれにジョージ・ハリスン。女性ヴォーカルとして、アップルのドリス・トロイも参加している。６０!年代のブリティッシュ・ロックを感じさせる作品で構成されている。残念ながらアルバム・セールスは不調であった。今聴き返すと、売れなかったのが不思議な感じ。12タイトル曲「神の掟」は、「バングラデシュのコンサート」でも演奏された曲で、スローなゴスペル調で始まりテンポアップしてゆき、クラプトンのギターとプレストンのオルガンがスリリングに掛け合わされてゆく聞きもの。アップル・レーベルのＣＤが復刻した時に真っ先に捜し求めた作品。Ｒ＆Ｂ、ブリティッシュロック・ファンには掘り出し物の作品ではないかと思う。お薦め！

　ビートルズやローリング・ストーンズの作品への参加で知られるBilly Prestonの、George Harrisonがプロデュースした1969年の作品にして代表作がこれ。邦題は「神の掟」で、George Harrisonはもちろん、Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Ginger Bakerがゲスト参加している豪華な一枚です。
　Billy Prestonはビートルズと1962年からの知り合いで、1969年のロンドン・フェスティバルホールでのレイ・チャールズのコンサートでGeorge Harrisonと再会したことをきっかけに"Let It Be Session"に参加するようになったということだったと思います。これに際してビートルズの曲にメンバー以外で初めて名前がクレジットされることになりました。1969年の4月から7月にかけて、アップル・スタジオでファーストアルバム「神の掟」の制作に入っていますが、アップル･スタジオでは同時に"Abbey Road Session"も併行して行われており(Billy Prestonは"Something" や "I Want You" のレコーディングに参加)、ビートルズのファンには聴き逃せないところでしょう。なお、2005年6月発売の紙ジャケはThrough All Times / As I Get Older / That's the Way God Planned It (Alternate version)の3曲がボートラで付いた15曲入りです。
　なお、Billy Prestonは昨年11月から腎不全などのため昏睡状態になっていたそうですが、ご存知の通り、2006年6月6日に亡くなられました。享年59歳とのことです。合掌。
