日本の有名な鍵盤・シンセサイザー奏者といえば喜多郎や富田勲、あるいは坂本龍一などが一般的によく知られているが、なぜか姫神こと星吉昭氏の名前はあまり知られていない（最近はそうでもないみたいだけど）。以前、「神々の詩」が大ヒットしたものの作曲者本人に関してはよく知らないという人達が多かったのも記憶に新しい。星さん自体、メディアに登板することがほとんど無いこともその一因だろうが、はっきり言って日本人でしかも音楽が大好きな人間ならばこの姫神を知らない人はあまりにも不幸だ。
普段のテレビ番組やCMで接するBGM。そこにどれほど姫神の曲が使われていることか。おそらくこのアルバムを聴けばほとんどの人が「あ、この曲どこかできいたことある！」と膝をたたくことだろう。

そんな姫神初心者の方にオススメしたいのが数ある姫神ベスト盤のなかでもこの「森羅万象」だ。
特にディスク1は姫神の代表曲をリリースされたアルバム順を追って一曲ずつ収録されており、姫神サウンドの入門編として最適な選曲が施されている。

ディスク2ではサウンド的に大幅な変化を遂げた「マヨヒガ」以降から2~3曲ずつ計10曲収録されている。中でも聴きどころなのは大ヒットした「神々の詩」とライブ録音された最後を飾る大曲「浄土曼荼羅」だろう。特に「浄土曼荼羅」はライブ録音だけあって臨場感や姫神独特のまろびやかな荘厳さが圧倒的な迫力で迫ってきて感涙モノ。

僕がはじめてこの曲を聴いた時、そこに描かれる日本的叙情性と仏教的無常観、そしていにしえの時を偲ばせる音像に思わず本気で泣いてしまいました。

幻想水滸伝IIIのオープニングで姫神に魅せられこのＣＤを買いました。私的にはDisk2の9番『神々の詩』がとってもお気に入りでなぜか涙が出てきそうな、何か懐かしいものを感じました。全ての曲をお勧めします。

日本の情景を余すことなく叙情的に再現できるミュージシャン「姫神」
日本の独特なフレーズにこだわったメロディーライン、音は最高だと思います。特に「大地燃ゆ」は僕の一番のおきに入りです。
