イギリス出身の彼等のこのアルバムは彼らのとってデビューにあたる作品です。ボーカルが結構ダミ声というか渋い感じの声で曲は少し力強いロックからバラードまで入っています。曲によって曲調が様々だけれどもアルバムに統一感があって少しファンクでソウルフルな感じもします。黒人女性のバック・コーラスもすごく雰囲気を出しているアルバム。全曲といっていいほど良い曲がそろっているアルバムで聞けば聞くほど味がでるアルバムでした。

１曲目からジョン・レノンそっくりのシャウトがビートルズ「抱きしめたい」風の曲に乗って出てきた時点で大当たり確定の盤でした。

ビートルズっぽいバンドはいくらでもありますがタンバリンがシャンシャンと鳴りソウルフルな女性コーラスがからんでくる3はストーンズっぽくもあり、6のようにストリングスアレンジが効いてる曲は当然オアシスのアレを思い出したりと、各バンドからいいとこ取りしながら自己流に仕上げている点がなかなか一筋縄ではいかない感じです。
曲によっては声のひしゃげ方がザ・ラーズのリー・メイヴァースに似てなくもないかな。

目新しさはないですが、オアシスやザ・ラーズ、ヴァーヴあたりが好きな人なら気に入るんじゃないでしょうか。

ヤードバーズ.Sフェイセズ.Rストーンズにモータウン系のR&B/ソウルを加えた、悪くいえば古臭いサウンドだがポップなメロディーがこのアルバムを瑞々しい雰囲気にしている。録音状態も良好(スーパークオリティレコーディング:CD記載)演奏も過去の先輩達より上手(笑)!こんな良い作品が300円で投げ売りされているとは…ちなみに2ndも同時購入、がらりと雰囲気は変わりますが…
