   本作『Pipes of Peace』は、ポール・マッカートニーのアルバムの中では印象の薄い1枚だが、「Say Say Say」が収録されているという点で注目に値する。この素晴らしいポップ・シングルで、マイケル・ジャクソンとのタイムリーなコラボレーションを実現させたあたり、さすがはポールだ。

   その他の曲については、充分に聴きやすく安定した仕上がりなのだが、ビートルズや絶頂期のウイングスのようなメロディーの魅力にとぼしい。ポールの1980年代のアルバムの中から出来のいいものを聴いてみたいというファンなら、埋もれた名作『Tug Of War』（邦題『タッグ・オブ・ウォー』）の方を取るかもしれない。ポールのベスト・ワークのひとつと言っていいアルバムだからだ。

   一方、この『Pipes of Peace』は、ポールの熱烈なファンからもさほど支持を得られないだろう。しかしながら、好調期の耳当たりのいい作風とはまた違ったものを期待する向きからは、本作をあえて「もっとも過小評価されているアルバム」に挙げる声も出ている。（Taylor Parkes, Amazon.co.uk）

Released in late 1983, Pipes of Peace peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard album charts, thereby becoming the first Paul McCartney LP to run out of gas before reaching the U.S. top 10. Which is not to say that it deserved better--despite the well-meaning title track and the duet with Michael Jackson on "Say Say Say," Pipes of Peace marked a definite artistic low for Sir Paul. Coming on the heels of 1982's effervescent Tug of War, Pipes of Peace sounded surprisingly sleepy and uninspired, and the few half-decent songs ("Keep Under Cover," the unfortunately titled "So Bad") didn't stand a chance against the album's bland, state-of-the-'80s production values. "Say Say Say," a big improvement over "The Girl Is Mine," Macca and Michael's previous collaboration, easily outclasses the album's other tracks. Happily, you can also find it on All the Best, where it gets the company it deserves. --Dan Epstein

私にとってのポールのベストはウィングス時代を含めて「Tug Of War」とこの「Pipes Of Peace」です。アルバム中の「So Bad」を初めて耳にしたときは「おいおいそのファルセットはやりすぎだろう」と思いましたが、聴いているうちにポールの曲の中でも大好きな曲のひとつになりました。いい曲多いですよ。もしもこのアルバムを聴いたことがないのであれば、ぜひ！

このアルバムって評価低いんですよね。なんでだろ？私が初めて買ったビートルのアルバムだからひいき目に見ているかもしれないけど「最高にいい」ですよ、これ。
特にタイトル曲の「Pipes Of Peace」。いきなり胸ぐらを捕まれて、そしてそのまま最後まで聴いてしまう。メロディの豊富さはポールならでは、途中であきることがないですしね。
なので、私の評価は★５つ。

ポールのソロキャリアの中で、これほどスタジオレコーディングのクオリティにこだわったアルバムはありません。
前作と兄弟作ですが、サウンドは前作より洗練されています。
作品的にも80ｓを代表するマイケルとの”Say Say Say”はもちろん、今のところ最後のU.KチャートNo.1となった"Pipes of peace"。イラクとアメリカがきな臭くなっている今、この歌を歌う意義はあるんじゃないでしょうか。
小作品ながら気品ある"So bad"やビートルズ時代のジョンが歌う"Girl"を明らかに意識した歌い方の"The other me"、プロデューサーのジョージ・マーティン曰くマッカートニーの最たる"Keep under cover"。

現在の彼は、ウィングス時代のようなバンドスタイルのサウンドに戻っていますが、このアルバムだけは、ライブ演奏を想定していないソロのスタジオ作品を意識して作られているなと思います。
”ただ愛に生きて”を聴いてどうぞ涙を流してください。
