この場合のバランスとは「バラードに偏ったベスト」ではないという意味である。のちに企画でバラードベストもリリースされたが。
MR.BIGはバラードだけが持ち味ではないのは、このアルバムを聞けば分かるでしょう。ハイスピードナンバーもしっかり収録されている。もちろん「To Be With You」「Wild World」「Just Take My Heart」のようなバラードも入っている。

ポール書き下ろしの新曲も良い出来だ。ポールが歌い変拍子の「Unnatural」はMR.BIGでやる必然性に欠けるのだが…　結構このベストからもれた名曲もある。しかし1stや2ndからはどの曲が選ばれても不思議なかった。
パット・ビリー・ポールの超絶楽器隊とエリックの歌とのバランスが、ある種のポップセンスを生み出していたことは間違いないだろう。

こののちのポールの脱退。エンジニアでプロデューサーのケビンとの決別を考えると、本当に良いタイミングで出したベストだと思う。

MR.BIGが一時活動を休止する前に出されたベストで、結果的にはポール・ギルバート在籍時を区切る一枚となったベストアルバム。四枚のアルバムからほぼ均等に楽曲がチョイスされており、日本のボーナストラックとしてI LOVE YOU JAPANが収録されています。また、日本盤だと楽曲の順番が発表順ではなく、きちんと一枚のアルバムとして組まれているので、それまでを聴いていたファンにとっては聴き応えのある一枚ですが、これを入門にした人にはMR.BIGの変遷は見えにくいかもしれません。

余りどのアルバムにウェイトを置くという事がない分、人によっては好みの楽曲が外れているという事もあるかもしれませんが、アルバムを聴いたときに「あぁ、良い曲だなぁ」と思った楽曲は殆ど収録されていると思います。

彼らは技巧派としての評判が高いですが、こうしてベストアルバムを聴くと、アーティストとして良いメロディを創り続けていた事を再認識できると思います。

このアルバムがMR.BIGとの出会いであったことに感謝。
今思い出しても初めて聞いたときの感動は鮮明に思い出せる。
感動のあまり、気付いたらオリジナルアルバムを全てまとめ買いしていた。

メンバーひとりひとりが「とにかく凄い奴等だ」というのが素人だった自分にもはっきり分かったし、何より理論でも理屈でもなく素直に「良い曲」と思える楽曲ばかりであった。
新曲3に至ってはこの曲が嫌いと言う人に出会ったことがない。(英語に拒否反応を示す者を除く)

12のギターソロは一見さらりと弾いているように聞こえるが実際にはかなりの難しいフレーズ。
また14のイントロのユニゾンは圧巻でありテクニック面は本当に申し分ない。

しかしこのアルバムを最後にポールギルバートの脱退が決まり、ギタリストの交代からバンドのカラーも多少変わっていく。「MR.BIG」としてのピークはこのアルバムではないだろうか。
