ニック･ヘイワードの若き才能が爆発する傑作1st(1983年作)。
ヘアカット100から地続きでいながら、拙いバンドサウンドからしっかりしたサウンドプロダクションになったことで、この頃のニックのソングライティングの冴えが堪能できます。1曲目「恋のスタート・トゥ・ビギン」からしていきなりニックが凡百のソングライターではないことを証明するポップ魂溢れるわくわくする曲で、例えばトラッシュ･キャン･シナトラズ1stにしてデビューシングル「オブキュリティ・ノックス」なんかに匹敵するキラーチューンです。その後も、ソングライティングの妙を充分に感じ取れるポップスのツボを得た曲が惜しげもなく並び、さすがは80年代ポール･マッカトニーと称されただけはあるなと唸らせられます。
個人的には切ないバラードのM9「雨にフォーエバー」がベストトラック。情感溢れるボーカルの表現力も素晴らしい曲で、全体にアップテンポのアルバムをしっかりと締めています。
ヘアカット100の1stもそうですが、まさに青春の瞬間を奇跡的に封じ込めたような作品です。特にこのアルバムは、そういう初期衝動が、きちんとしたプロダクションでなされているという点で珍しいと思います。

元ヘアカット100 のニック・ヘイワードのソロ第一作目で、邦題の「風のミラクル」の方が有名。1983年10月の発売時、全英チャートでは１０位まで登ったそうですが、そういったことに関係なく末永く楽しめる良質な曲が収録されています。シンプルなアレンジの曲が多いですが、ブラスが入る曲などはヘアカット100からの流れを感じさせます・・・というのもこのアルバムの楽曲は元々ヘアカット100のセカンド・アルバム用に用意されていた曲を使ったためだからでしょう。もちろんヘアカット100の1stもお薦めです。蛇足というか最近聞き直して知ったのですが、キーボードにエルヴィス・コステロのバックバンド、アトラクションのスティーヴ・ナイーブが参加していて、“いかにも”なピアノを聞かせてくれます。
