どこかパールジャムの二番煎じ的なイメージが強かった初期の印象だが、このアルバムはそんなイメージを払拭。グランジ勢の中ではズバ抜けた演奏能力とメロディセンス。ヘヴィネス、ポップセンスが上手く同居し、バラエティに富んだ選曲は最後まで飽きさせない。過小評価されたまま解散したのが残念。

Stone Temple Pilotsの2nd。

前作のCoreが荒削りではあったが、いくつもシングルのヒットにより特大のアルバムセールスを記録することとなり、その反動で「似非グランジ」だの「産業オルタナ」、しまいにはClone Temple Pilotsなどとまで呼ばれ、世間やプレスから袋叩きにあった後の、清清しい開き直りともとれる素晴らしい名盤！

今作制作中にヘロインの渦中だったと思わるVo.スコットの、ドラッグからの影響が作品の節々に表れており彼独自のカメレオンボイスから溢れ出る、おサイケで、シュールでセクシーなメロディ-が全編に冴え渡っており、そのバックを固めるディレオ兄弟の完璧にツボを抑え徹底的に磨き・洗練させた鉄壁のトラックが相成った作品であり、パクり云々の外野の声など笑殺するような、至極真っ当な『Rock Music』の（無個性が最大の「個性」のような）王道の音を作り出したことには驚きに値する。

今作も名曲揃いであり当時の向こうのMTVやラジオ等でもヘヴィーローテとなったVasoline（未だに'90Hitみたな番組ではｶﾞﾝｶﾞﾝ流れてます）やファンの間でも一番の名曲と呼び声が高いInterstate Love Songなど、その他のメロウな曲やヘヴィーな曲も含めとにかく文句のつけようがなく、その上収録時間を聞き飽きさせずに、何度でも聞けることが出来る47分（裏を返せば昔ながらのLP盤の時間に合わせているとも言える）に仕上げるなどニクイばかりです。

しかも、今作発表直後にスコットがヘロイン所持で逮捕されるなどRock的トリビアにも恵まれる！？等、まさに名盤たる資質を十分に備えた作品であり、何度も繰り返し聞けるクオリティーも兼ね備え、これ以上望むものは無いくらいのアルバムです。

倦怠感渦巻く重低音のグルーヴに、グラムファッションに身を包み、ダンディズムを絵に描いたようなワルなシンガー、スコット・ウェイランドの伸びのあるハスキー・ヴォイスが絡まる。
ミドル〜スローテンポで、静寂の中にあるハードな部分を色濃く堪能させてくれる大人のロックです。
ストテンの中の一押しアルバム。
