代表曲や、初期の頃の曲などたくさんの曲が多く含まれ、一見お買い得のようにみえる本盤ですが、収録されている代表曲のほとんどが7インチの短いバージョンです。個人的に、というかローゼズを聴くならやはり12インチバージョンを聴いてほしいですね。7インチバージョンではもちろん楽曲のクオリティの高さはわかるのですが、なぜローゼズが伝説なのか？どうして、いまだに語られるのか？というのは初めて聴く方は特に伝わりにくいと思います。僕は初めてローゼズを聴く方にはこのCDはお薦めしません。「1st」もしくは、「very Best of」を聴いてほしいですね。リザレクションの"あれ"がないのなんて。。。ねぇ。。。というわけで既にたくさんのレビューの載っているこのCDのレビューを書きました。

たった２枚しかアルバムは出してないのに、こういったデビューからの彼らの楽曲を振り返るというのは、ストーン・ローゼズというバンドがいかにすごいバンドだったかってのを表しているんじゃないかと思う。

若さがにじみ出ているデビューシングル、So Young、初期ローゼズ屈指の名曲Sally Cinnamon、シーン進出のきっかけのElephant Stone、Elephant Stoneの逆回転再生のFull Fathom Five、金字塔Made Of Stone、B面の中では最高であろうMersey Paradise、ライブでの定番I Am A Resurrection、ファンキーでグルーヴィーなFool's Gold、そのグルーヴをだしつつ、美しいメロディを兼ねそろえたOne Loveまでの２１曲。この中に、あの輝いてた日々が詰まっている。

*Here It Comesはガレージ・フラワーのヴァージョンと若干異なり、She Bungs The DrumとI Am The Resurrectionは12インチミックス(国内盤What The World Is Waiting Forのシングル*廃盤 収録のヴァージョン)、Fool's Goldはオリジナルではなく、現在ファーストアルバムに収録されているヴァージョン。

しかしどれをとっても名曲ばがり。

リアルタイムで経験してなくとも、ローゼズを聴くとその当時の情景が浮かび上がってくるし、自分の思い出が頭の中に焼きついて離れなくなる。

どんな人でも共感させてしまう。最高のバンドだ。ストーン・ローゼズと会えて、本当に幸せだ。

当時は日本のロック誌でいろいろ大げさなことを書かれていたけれど、今になって聴けば単純にとても楽しいロージズのベスト盤。 ダンスミュージックの要素を大胆に取り入れ、その後のテクノ隆盛を準備したバンドとしてとても重要です。「エレファント・ストーン」「ウォーター・フォール」など名曲多数！ 今になって聴くと、ちょっと1曲1曲が短すぎるような気がするんだけど、それも「あの時代」を象徴している感じです。
