ウリ・ロート（当時ウルリッヒ・ロート）のギターがメロディックで先ず良い。ハーモニック・マイナーの昇降フレーズやディミニッシュの使い方など、イングヴェイ・マルムスティーンに影響を及ぼしていることがハッキリと理解できる。マイケルやマティアス在籍時のバンドとは、明らかに違う音に仕上がっており、クラウス・マイネのヴォーカルを除けば別のバンドと言っても過言ではない。ただ、２曲ほどウリがヴォーカルを取っているが、ヴォーカリストとしての力量はクラウスには劣る。 ＜１＞＜２＞＜５＞＜９＞がお薦め。 スコーピオンズお得意の、アメリカで差し替えられたアルバムジャケットも衝撃的。

とにもかくにも、アメリカで発禁ジャケとなった、という話題が先行して、
｢こいつら一体何やねん！？｣という先入観を、聴く前は誰もが抱きます。

しかし！この音を聴けば、これほど品行方正で、かつクオリティ高きアルバムも
そうそうないもんだ、という事に気づくこと請け合いです。
しょっぱなの｢Pictured Life｣｢Catch Your Train｣の連発から悩殺です。

そして、涙なしには聴けない｢In Your Park｣や、ドライヴィング感ある｢Virgin Killer｣ときて･･･。

このアルバム唯一の欠点、それは、ウリ･ロートが歌っていること･･･（泣）
クラウス･マイネというロック界屈指の美声の持ち主をさしおいて、
下手な歌を披露しております。

しかし！！その他の7曲だけで、そんじょそこらのアルバムにはない満足感が味わえます！

初めてScorpionsに触れる貴方、硬の｢Blackout｣、柔の｢Savage Amusement｣、
そしてこの、涙、涙の｢Virgin Killer｣を是非！

もう四半世紀以上も前のこと、僕は地方の国立大に通っていました。
そのキャンパスの向かい側に一軒の喫茶店があり、
そこで何度も何度も聴いていたのが、この「ヴァージン・キラー」というアルバム。
まだ若かった僕の耳に刻み込まれてしまった彼らの音楽は、
しらない間に、僕が誰かの音楽を評価するときの基準になってしまっているのでした。
（このギターはシェンカーよりヘタだな・・・）とか、
（このヴォーカルはマイネみたいな芯がない・・・）とか。
そのくらい始終聴いていたから、ちょっと前のアマゾンで
（今は非表示になっちゃいましたが）「ヴァージン・キラー」の、
発禁になった例のアルバムジャケットを見たときに、
（あああ・・・これだ）
と思い、買ってしまいました。
で、あらためて聴いてみると・・・大脳皮質にしみるんだわ。
僕的には、ぜんぜん古くならない。
これで育ったようなものだから無理もないのだけれど。
ひとことでいうと「情感」があるのです。濡れた襞がある。
あまりにも良いので、さらにデジタルリマスターのアルバムを
８枚ほど聴いてみましたが、
（・・・ああ、やっぱり、いい）
僕の聴覚の「琴線」にズキズキ触れるのでした。
彼らの音楽があなたの琴線に触れるのか触れないのか、
それを判断するのに最適なのが、
この「ヴァージン・キラー」というアルバム。お試しあれ。
