Scheherazade & Other Stories', the Alt/Prog Rockers Renaissance's 1975 Recording Originally Issued on the Btm Label, was Rereleased by Repertoire in 1994. Features an Interpretation of the Russian Composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Piece 'Scheherazade' plus Three Other Tracks. Includes a Biographical Essay About the Band by Mark Brennan. Recorded at the Legendary Abbey Road Studios.

近年のビートを強調した音楽に慣れた耳で一聴しただけだと、その魅力を捕らえきれないかもしれない。聞きやすさという点ではAshes Are Burningに譲るが、ゆっくりと流れる時間を楽しむ余裕のある人にはぜひ聞いてもらいたいそんな作品です。
アナログアルバム的に言うとA面に比較的に短めな曲（といっても結構長い）、B面を全て使った組曲という構成なっている。

１曲目のTrip To The Fairで聞かれるボーカルのAnnie Haslamの表現力はすばらしく、この曲での旅がミステリアスな物であると感じさせる。又、のちにBlackmore's NightによってカバーされるOcean Gypsyでは本当にロックにありがちな盛り上がりとは違う気品にあふれた盛り上がりを聞かせ、このバンドが唯一無二な存在である事を知らしめている。クラシックの焼き直しをする近年の安物バンドとは格の違いを感じさせる。
最大の聞き所はなんと言っても組曲Song of Scheherazadeで、詩の内容は先夜一夜のアラビアンナイトだが、曲の組み立て、誌の美しさと最後には感動させてくれる。特にここでもAnnie Haslamのパフォーマンスが素晴らしく、いかに彼女の存在がこのバンドを特別にしていたかがわかる。
今、癒し系という言葉ありますが、このバンドこそ元祖癒し系ではないでしょうか？

5.0 out of 5 stars 陰影のある真の"クラシカル"ロック。, 2007/9/3
なんでもプログレの中にはシンフォニックロックと呼ばれるジャンルがあるそうだ。メロトロンやシンセサイザーでシンフォニックに盛り上げるロックのことを言うらしいが、このバンドもそんな中に当てはめられているのだろう。しかし彼らは先程挙げたような当時の先端技術に頼るのではなく、アコースティック・ピアノとオーケストラによって生のクラシックのような雄大さを作り上げたのだ。これは真にプログレッシブなことではないだろうか。そんな彼らの代表作の一つに数えられるのが本作。
よくロックとクラシックの融合という際にＥＬＰの名前が出てくるが、彼らはちょっと違うと思う。僕が思うにＥＬＰは「クラシックを引用したキーボードによるハードロック」なのだ。それは本作を聴けば違いがよくわかる。全編を通したクラシカルで御伽噺のような雰囲気はＥＬＰのそれとは全く違うものである。そして何よりもこのグループにはアニー・ハズラムという唯一無比のヴォーカリストがいるので、まるでオペラを聴いているような気分になる。
１曲目「Trip To The Fair」からアニーのコケットな歌声とオルゴールのような音で気分はもう別世界へ。３曲目「Ocean Gypsy」では霧がかった海の情景が浮かんでくる。間奏のピアノソロでは天上の世界へ連れていかれてしまうだろう。そしてアナログＢ面を覆いつくした「シェエラザード組曲」。完全無音の部分なども登場するこの曲はまさにクラシックの組曲だ。
真の"クラシカル"ロックを聴きたい人にお薦めである。

わたしが学生だった２０年前に、よく聴いていました。
なつかしいですね。
当時もプログレやらクラシック・ロックとか言われたけど、当時も今も
なんでそんなこと言うのか全然わかりまへん。
歌詞が進歩的？あたま悪いので、歌詞が理解できまへん。
クラシックの手法を本当に使っているのかね？ただストリングス使ってる
だけとちゃうのん？

タイトル曲のシェエラザアド組曲は、冗長でうっとおしい。
でも、特徴であるストリングスをいっさい使っていないTrip To The Fair
が夢幻的で好い（酔い／善い）
また、ルネッサンスと言えば、の代表曲Ocean GypsyがあるのもGood。
この２曲だけで買う／聴く価値有りよ。
日本版も廃盤だし、手に入りにくいね。すぐ発注だ。
